“No,Iwasn’t.”

Damonlaughed under his breath. “You’rekilling me,” he breathed, pressing a surprisingly soft kiss on the corner of my mouth.

“Geta room,” a bystander griped.

Myhead lurched back at the unexpected voice.

"Ignorethem.Theydon't know us."Damontried to find my lips again, butIturned my face away.

"Everyoneknows you,"Ireminded him.WhatwasIthinking?Iforgot we were no longer within the confines of my balcony but out in public.Evenhis security team was watching us from a distance.

Damonmade a frustrated noise at the back of his throat, his free hand raking through his hair. “Maybeit’s time they know about you, too.Theneveryone will know you’re mine.”

Wasthat howIwantedRoseto wake up?Wasthat howIwanted to destroy my remaining relationships?Ilived my life forgoing conventional bonds, and nowIhad burned too many bridges.Therewere two people left on my side; one was in a coma, and the other was a two-year-old.Itwasn’t exactly a promising outlook.Evenmy mother turned her back on me, handing me over to the board for violating the morality clause.

Anoverwhelming tightness gripped my throat, and my voice dropped to a whisper. "Letgo!"

“No.”Hisfingers tightened around the base of my neck.

“Peopleare watching.”

“DoIlook likeIcare?”Forthe first time,Damonseemed pissed.Untilnow, he’d never denied me, catering to my every wish.Theabrupt personality transplant was an unchartered territory.

Istared at him with wide eyes, ambushed by the change in tone.Itried to yank away once more. “Letgo.”

“No,” he roared, grabbing my elbow harder than necessary.

BeforeIcould take another step,Damondragged me back with a roughness unlike him.Ourlips collided.Hekissed me hard, too hard, as if he was tired of waiting and at the end of his rope.Mylegs were weak from the ferocity of it, but he held me up with an arm wrapped around my middle.

Histongue glided past my lips and pushed inside my mouth.Damongroaned like he might die, exploring my mouth as he pleased.Itwas challenging to keep my eyes peeled open.Itwas all too much.

Thetension between us was volatile, our bodies ready to explode without immediate release.Histhumbs made circles on my back, causing a wild beast inside me to rattle the bars of its cage to escape.

Isthis what drugs feel like?

Aquiet moan escaped my lips when he licked down the column of my neck.Damonreturned to my mouth, taking my bottom lip between his teeth for a harsh tug.

“Stopfighting me,Poppy,” he whispered against my lips. “We’dbe so good together; it’d be worth fighting the world for it, not me.”

Ahand traveled to my breast over my dress, squeezing firmly.Hethumbed my nipple untilIshuddered, utterly past the point of giving a shit about who was watching us.Iwas in no state to think clearly.Myfingers wrapped around his messy hair asIbit back another moan.Hishand slid down to my ass, gripping me tightly under the bomber jacket, lewdly bunching the material of my dress to pull it up with no care for onlookers.

Justthen,Iheard the murmurs in the background.

Iknow him.

That’sDamonMaxwell.

Who’sthe girl?

Fora moment,Istill relented.Theshutter sound from a phone camera went off, finally snapping me out of the haze.Iopened my eyes and pushed atDamon'schest, averting my face so it wouldn’t be captured in pictures.

Weweren’t surrounded by paparazzi.Instead, a group in their twenties had recognizedDamon.Fortunately, they read the intimate scene and didn’t approach us.Unfortunately, all of them had their cameras out.

“Damon, stop.Peopleare taking pictures of us.”

Thekissing stopped, but his grip remained firm, his eyes liquid fire.Thiswas a different man than before. “Whocares?” he hissed through clenched teeth.

“Ido.”
