When the door opens, I find myself standing face to face with the most handsome mountain man I’ve ever seen.

He towers over me at about six foot five, with huge muscles I can see even though he’s wearing a thick sweatshirt. He’s got the hood pulled up too, with a lock of his thick brown hair falling into his face.

As he takes a step closer to me, I notice the scars on the right side of his face that I read about in his file. But even with them, he’s devastatingly handsome.

As his gaze rakes over me, I feel heat rush to my cheeks, and I have to remind myself that I’m a professional and I’m here to help him.

“What do you want?” the man snaps.

I don’t know what I was expecting, but this grouchy man definitely wasn’t it.

I clear my throat.

“Um, hi. Sorry to bother you, but?—”

He quirks an eyebrow at me and smirks. “No sense in being sorry. Just leave now, and you won’t be bothering me a bit.”

Of course. He wouldsmirkat me when he’s being rude. I decide not to let it bother me. It’s not like I haven’t seen this type of behavior before.

My dad was like this for a while, and I watched my mom be so patient with him, waiting for him to come around. She forced him to share what was bothering him, and she worked hard to understand.

I’m not going to let Chase hurt my feelings. I’m here to do a job.

“My name is Molly, and I’m your physical therapist. I’ve been waiting for you to come in and see me.”

“Jeff sent you here?,”

His expression changes a little bit, and he’s not as grumpy looking now, I guess, but he definitely isn’t happy that I’m here for medical reasons.

he says with a snort.

“Um, not exactly. But he did say you were the type who might need some convincing.”

Chase quirks a brow at me.

“And I just want you to know that I have no plans of leaving here without having at least a discussion with you. Five minutes of your time, Chase, that’s all I’m asking for.”

Chase gives me a wary look but steps back and lets me walk into the cabin.

“Five minutes,” he grumbles under his breath.

Now comes the hard part.

Chapter Two

CHASE

Molly brushes pastme as she walks into the living room, and I curse silently. I can already tell that this is a mistake.

I tried to play it off, but I knew who Molly was as soon as I opened the door.

Last month, Jeff Matthews told me his daughter was taking over his clinic. Jeff is the best physical therapist I’ve ever worked with. In fact, he’s the reason I agreed to come back home and complete my recovery in Cooper Hills.

Although I was sure his daughter was probably an okay therapist, I also knew she was young. So I doubted she would be as good as someone with her dad’s level of experience.

Still, I promised Jeff I would give her a chance, and I meant it at the time.

But that was before I saw her.
