Sophie smiled. Her daughter was infatuated with Malik.

The international news the last few days had been all over the place, but most respected outlets recognized that William Rindlesbacher had murdered Franz Wengreen and framed Hattie Ballard August for it. Interpol had put out a request for any information leading to the arrest of William and Naomi. Charges of kidnapping, murder, conspiracy to overthrow the throne, among others. Everyone was speculating that William had killed the queen as well.

Leslie Shule had disappeared, and the prime minister was frantic. Malik had admitted to her that his dad and T were trying to help Henry, but they were also careful what they shared. Trust would take a while to rebuild.

Steffan and Hattie August had returned from their humanitarian mission—or from the dead, in Hattie’s case. It was wonderful to see Steffan and get to know Hattie.

There were also rumors that Henry Shule had sent his only daughter Jennifer away to protect her. The entire family was debating whether Jennifer would return now, if T and Jennifer would reignite their flame, or whether there was too much pain, confusion, and misunderstanding between them.

A white Maserati SUV pulled up to the curb. Sophie would’ve run for the door, but she was too busy watching one charming and handsome prince slide out of the car and strut up the walkway. Dressed in a button-down shirt open at the collar and dark gray dress pants, he was the picture of handsome elegance.

“What is it, Mum?” Sunny appeared at her elbow, glancing up at her.

The doorbell rang.

“Prince Malik!” Sunny screamed, tossing her dolls in the air and running for the door.

Sophie laughed, and followed her daughter.

Sunny flung the door wide and jumped at Malik. He caught her and lifted her into his arms, grinning. “How’s my girl?”

“I’m good, my prince. Very, very good, now that you’re here.” Sunny tried to wink at him but ended up blinking both eyes.

Malik laughed and looked at Sophie. “Soph … you look incredible.”

Sophie ran a hand down her floral summer dress and walked to him. He gave her a chaste peck on the lips. She wanted more, much more, but her daughter was inches away.

“Mum!” Sunny pushed her away. “You can’t be kissing my boyfriend.”

Malik and Sophie laughed and exchanged a look.

“Sunny,” Malik said. “There’s a slight problem with me being your boyfriend.”

“What kind of a … problem?” Sunny gave him an impertinent look that said he’d better tread carefully.

“Well, you see, an incredibly gorgeous, smart, talented, and kind woman stole my heart years ago and she never gave it back.”

“Let’s get it back from her,” Sunny demanded.

Malik smiled. He focused on Sophie, his gaze full of light, love, and forever. “The problem is I don’t want my heart back. I love your mum completely and I want her to always have my heart.”

Sophie’s body felt warm and light.

“Oh.” Sunny looked back and forth between them. “You can’t be my boyfriend if you love my mum. That’s crazy.”

They laughed.

“Very crazy.” Malik focused on Sunny. “Do I have your approval to love your mum and maybe someday soon I can be your dad?”

Sophie sucked in a breath. He didn’t have a ring on him currently. Did he? She’d say yes a hundred times over, but they could also date for … a week or so.

“A charming prince boyfriend would be better,” Sunny mused. “But I guess a prince dad is okay.”

Malik grinned and tossed her in the air, making her squeal, and caught her easily. “I’ll be much better than an ‘okay’ dad. I’ll be the best dad in the world, next to the king and your Papa P.”

Sophie’s heart was racing.

“I think you just may,” Sunny teased.
