“Well, we’re getting married on Tuesday,” smiled Mike.

“I know,” said Katrina. “Martha told me.” Mike could only shake his head. Of course, the ghosts knew before anyone else.

“First, we have some things to get handled for Sage,” said Mike. “And I think we got our first clue. We’ll need to borrow Noah or Julia if that’s possible. I think the spirit will still talk to Sage, but just in case, it would be nice to have backup. Besides, I’m not sure it’s safe to take her off property yet.”

“We can be there,” said his Uncle Joseph, holding his wife tightly.

“Uncle Joseph, Aunt Julia, this is Sage.”

“You guys have seriously strong genetics,” she mused, reaching out to shake hands with the couple.

“We hug here,” said Julia, hugging the woman tightly. “You have a good spirit about you.”

“Oh. I do? A spirit? Like a ghost spirit?”

“My Aunt Julia and Noah Anders, over there, can both see and hear spirits. All of them.”

“That must be awful,” said Sage.

“It can be overwhelming, but you’ll find when you have a Redhawk man beside you, Sage, nothing is impossible. I meant that your spirit, your personal spirit, is pure and true. It’s comforting to see and feel it. There are no ghosts lingering around you other than those here.” Julia snuggled into Joseph as she always did. It made him fill with pride that this woman had chosen him, brought him from the depths of despair and into the light.

“Do I get to meet the new Redhawk?” smirked Miguel.

“Grandpa Miguel,” smiled Mike, kissing his grandfather’s cheek. “Sage, this is my maternal grandfather, Miguel, and his partner, Doug.”

“It’s so lovely to meet you both,” she smiled. As another woman started walking toward them, Sage was taken aback by her nearly white-blonde hair. In fact, there was another woman with silvery-white hair, but this one was different.

“Good morning,” smiled Zoe to the group of people. “Hi, Sage. My name is Zoe Fitzhenry. I’m working with some of the others to try and figure out where those diamonds came from.”

“Oh, are you a gemologist?” she asked.

“No. Like Megan, I worked in a museum. But I have experience with jewels used in art and weaponry.”

“Weaponry?” frowned Sage.

“Yes. Did you get a good look at the shape of the diamonds?”

“No. I was so nervous with those men standing over me. I didn’t want to give anything away. Why?”

“They’ve all been expertly cut. From the look of them, I believe they’re four to five hundred years old. I think they’re from a sword or shield, which obviously would have been ceremonial.”

“Wouldn’t we have heard about diamonds being stolen from something so precious?” asked Sage.

“Maybe. Or maybe they replaced them with fakes. I think once we’re able to do further testing on them, we can try to determine where they may have come from. It would also help to know where these men have been, but we need names to figure all that out.”

“I never thought of that,” said Sage, shaking her head. “How can I help you?”

“Well, I understand that you have a ghost to speak with first,” smiled Zoe. “You do that, and Jean, Megan, Ela, and I will continue to look into where they came from. When you’re done, just join us in the offices.”

“Thank you, Zoe. I look forward to working on this with all of you.” Zoe walked away, giving a wave and a smile. “You have the most amazing, talented people here. I mean, it’s just incredible.”

“Incredible or not, let’s eat and head into town to see the house and your friendly ghost. At least, I hope he’s friendly,” smirked Mike.

“He was always friendly to me and Granny. He didn’t want to talk about how he died. I suspect it wasn’t pleasant, given the timing of his death and what the South was going through at the time. New Orleans especially was a city bursting at the seams with French, Spanish, Caribbean, and African ships causing an influx of people. Not to mention the Irish.”

“We’ve been lucky here,” said Mike. “The Robicheaux family had slaves, at least on the surface, that’s what they were called. They were paid like employees, fair and square, but the Robicheauxs never divulged that to anyone. They didn’t let other families know that for fear of what they would do, but they were treated like family.”

“Really? I find that hard to believe,” said Sage.
