I can’t take it anymore. The pressure building in my stomach suddenly explodes. I’m not sure where I end and his mouth begins.

I know that I’m shaking. I know that he’s the only thing supporting me. But I can’t think about that when the orgasm thunders through me like a nuclear bomb.

My ears are ringing by the time I come back to my senses.

Arnie lifts me up and wraps me gently in a towel. Wordlessly, he carries me through the apartment. The rasp of his soaked pants is the only noise as we push through my bedroom door.

He lays me down so softly and, after undressing himself, joins me there.

As he curls himself around me, instantly dropping off to sleep, I heave a sigh. There is something so comforting about his absolute willingness to be vulnerable around me like this.

Still feeling the high from my orgasm, I close my eyes, nestling into his chest.

Perhaps my birthday won’t be so bad after all.

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Arnie

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROISIN!”

I jolt awake with a start. Adrenaline coursing through my veins as I scramble for something, anything to defend myself with.

But when my eyes adjust, it’s not to find men dressed in black orDead Eyessurrounding the bed.

Only Felicity and Bella, Roisin’s housemates, wearing party hats and brandishing a cake.

Thank God I had the foresight to slip on some boxers before I fell asleep. But I find myself pulling up the blanket to cover my chest anyway.

Roisin stirs irritably next to me.

“Roi-sinnnn!!” Bella sing-songs as she hits the bed where Roisin’s feet should be. “Wake up, sleepyhead.”

“Did Arnie keep you up all night?” Felicity teases, glancing at me devilishly.

It’s been hard to get a clear read on Felicity. Her tenacious and unwavering loyalty toward Roisin makes me want to like her. But unfortunately, it doesn’t seem she shares the same sentiment.

Roisin groans and rolls over to face me. “Make them go away,” she murmurs into her pillow.

“Hey!” Bella and Felicity cry out in unison. The cake in Felicity’s hand wobbles unceremoniously at her distress.

“Is it really your birthday?” I feel a bit foolish for not knowing, but in fairness, I don’t recall her ever mentioning it. Surely Connor might have said something yesterday?

“Maybe,” Roisin admits. “But it’s too early for birthday anything.”

Felicity faux-gasps. “It’s 8:30 A.M., Roisin. We gave you an extra half hour to sleep in.”

“Arnie, get these heinous criminals out of my room,” Roisin repeats, her voice beginning to gain some clarity.

I sigh, put my hands behind my head, and stretch. “Sorry, Roisin, it’s your birthday. I can’t interfere with birthday-related shenanigans.”

Roisin’s eyes open a crack to glare at me.

I chuckle at her as I grab a nearby towel and stand up. Once suitably concealed, I turn to Felicity and Bella. “She’s all yours.”

Bella practically shrieks as she launches herself onto the bed where I’d been lying only moments before. I back out of the room, leaving the three of them to enjoy themselves while I shower.

Or at least, while I hide there so I can figure out what the hell I’m supposed to do about Roisin’s birthday.
