Only to come face to face with Kate St Michael.

She smiles prettily at him.

CRUNCH.

Connor’s knees collapse as he falls to the ground. His eyes roll back into his head as he lands with a thump, his nose pointing out at an odd angle.

Kate shakes out her fist before putting her rings back on. “Where were we, vicar?” she calls up to the officiant as if nothing has happened.

“I-I-I’m not a vicar,” the quivering reply comes a second later.

No one says another thing.

In the silence, something desperate and wild begins to build up inside of me. I’m not entirely sure what it is until…

“Ha… Hahahaha.”

I can’t contain it. The laughter pours itself out of me in waves. I know I must look like a lunatic, but really, the absurdity of the situation is just too funny.

One glance at Roisin, and she’s giggling too. Desperately throwing her hand in front of her mouth in an attempt to conceal it.

Aimee is the next one to crack. Then Jack.

Within only a few minutes, our entire party of seven is howling with laughter, to the point of hysteria. Kate doubles over, clutching her stomach as Roisin practically falls into my arms on her way down from the stage. Even the officiant is laughing nervously, although clearly wildly uncomfortable.

“Your family is bloody mental!” Felicity gasps between her own fits of laughter.

Which only serves to set us all off again.

“Um…” The officiant speaks up over the roar of our humor. “I hate to do this, but I’m only available for the next three minutes.”

“Oh shit,” I say, wiping the tears from my eyes.

Roisin is in a similar state, her beautiful makeup smudged by tears of ridiculous joy. But I don’t care.

Yes, the wedding has been messy. It was thrown together last minute, the venue sucks, and Connor just had to stick his ginger foot in it.

The only thing I care about, though, is the woman in front of me.

“You still want to do this?” I ask her with my heart on my sleeve.

She reaches for me, bringing me in for a kiss.

“Every day, for the rest of our lives.”

I take a moment to breathe her in, to fully appreciate the moment. Rowdy as it might be, surrounded by friends and unconscious family, life has never felt so perfect.

With a nod to the officiant, he speeds through the legal requirements at double time.

“Do you, Roisin Emily Maguire, take Arnold Knight to be your husband?”

“I do.” Her smile could light up a city as I slip my ring on her finger.

“Do you, Arnold Knight, take Roisin Emily Maguire to be your wife?”

My response is as easy as breathing.

“I do.”
