“There she is!” I could hear the annoying voice.

I let out an exhausted sigh.

“You don't have to look so displeased to see me.” Shawn rolled his eyes.

“What do you want?” I asked, ignoring his complaint.

“A simple, ‘Hi, how are you doing?’ Is that too much for you?” he asked.

“Depends upon who I'm spending it on,” I replied. “Now what do you want?”

“I don't want anything in particular. I just came to see you,” he answered.

“I swear to god if it's something stupid,” I warned.

“It's business. I don't see how it's stupid,” he shrugged.

“What business exactly?” I asked.

“I've been having issues getting the kind of crowd that I want,” he explained. “For my hospital, that is.”

“That is a good thing for the society,” I pointed out. “What is your point?”

“I'm saying I need collaboration,” he answered. “You've already expanded so much. What if I told you working with me will only increase your numbers?”

“You meanyournumbers,” I corrected.

“I don't want to sound like I'm desperate or anything,” he said, “but, yes, I also need my numbers to go up. I can't do it alone. Come on, for old times' sake?”

“What do you mean old time’s sake? We haven't even been friends. I barely know you besides what I have researched about you,” I snapped.

“Are you stalking me?” he asked with an amused smile.

“In your dreams,” I sighed “I do not want to partner.”

“Alright, alright, hospital affairs aside,” he said, then came closer. He whispered, “I heard your mom is looking for someone. Do you have any idea who it is?”

“I have no idea. Why the sudden interest?” I asked.

“Oh, nothing in particular,” he replied, “but if you think about it, maybe working together can put you ahead of your siblings and family once and for all.”

“You are literally lower than George in connections. And my younger brother doesn't even involve himself in activities like this,” I remarked. “What could I possibly gain by aligning myself with you?”

“Protection?” He raised a brow. “I may not look like it but I have people who would protect both of us, but it has to be in that manner.”

“I don't know what you're trying to get me into, but I am not interested,” I said firmly, “but thank you for the offer.”

He looked angry but did nothing but leave the way he came. I had been so busy preparing for my trip to Zurich that I had forgotten to keep tabs on my family members.

Maybe I should do a little digging into Bruce's life.

Chapter nine

Change of Plans?

Bruce

I didn't think it was worth it, anymore. The revenge just seemed childish to me now. She had done nothing wrong. True, she had humiliated me in front of everyone and made me beg to be a partner academically.
