“We didn't fight. I don't think Bruce will be the type to be with another woman. What am I saying? We aren't even together, so he could actually do what he wanted,” I said and sighed.

“Then what happened?” she urged me to continue.

“I found a hospital he was volunteering at and even got to work alongside with him. He's so good with kids that I want him to carry mine,” I went on.

“Wait, what? Carry your… never mind, go on.”

“I mean, there's just something about strong men that are good with kids that makes you want to get them pregnant and have them carry yours,” I explained.

“I literally didn't want an explanation,” she said. “Just tell me what happened.”

“He wasn't volunteering,” I said with a weak smile on my face. “He owned the children's hospital. But lied that he was only volunteering.”

“When I asked him why he did that, his response could easily be translated to‘I can't tell you what I'm going to throughout because you'll look down on me.’”

“In other words, your life as an alpha female has finally backfired,” she said, adding more context,. “I didn't see that coming. Oh wait, I did. You just didn't know it.”

“Shut up,” I ordered and frowned. “I felt like a monster. I wouldn't care if anyone else told me that but hearing him say it….”

“Look at you getting teary-eyed because of a man,” Helena said and grinned. “All the men you've tormented in the past would be celebrating right now.”

“They should invite me to the party,” I sighed. “I don't know Helena. This whole thing is scary. I hate how he's making me feel.”

“It's love. We hate it, but it happens,” she said. “You'll get used to it.”

I hope so.

I stared at my reflection. I didn't bring a lot of clothes, and I couldn't borrow Helena’s due to our difference in size and height. I couldn't go to the mall, either, because I knew I would make a lot of fuss. All I had was a sundress I had packed on a whim.

It was one I hadn't worn in a while, so I was worried if it would fit. Luckily, it did, stopping just above my knee. Helena had helped with my hair; I hadn't straightened it for so long. It honestly felt weird. I was getting all dressed up just because I wanted to see a man.

I mean, back in medical school, when I dated whatever his name was I wasn't bothered or stressed about what I would wear. But now it bothered me a lot.

“Why don't you do your nails?” My younger sister frowned as she stared at my fingers. “You aren't even a tomboy. And some of them even do theirs.”

“We don't have time for that; it's just a date,” I said.

“Yeah, right,” she said and rolled her eyes. “I have press on nails. You're going to put them on.”

“But…”

“Don't you want to look good?” she asked.

“I mean, I already have my hair and clothes sorted out. We could just polish the nails and…”

“No.”

The stern reply from the little woman shut me up.

“Now, where were we?” she asked, “And if you break them, I'll kill you.”

“We're rich. We can just repurchase them,” I reminded her.

“This is the devil, something you should be considering breaking, damned gorilla,” she muttered.

It was nice seeing her put effort into my life. Bruce had texted that he would pick me up at the hotel and mentioned brunch, an outdoor activity, and a movie. I bet he wasn't even nervous. That sly fox.
