“Like I said, be careful,” she said. “I should probably warn the rest of your siblings as well.”

“Thank you, Mom.” I confirmed.

“You’re… different,” she said and hung up.

To think that a time would come when Mother would actually care about her children. I was more worried about Lucas. I called to confirm what was going on.

“Hello? Tabitha?” he answered.

“What exactly was the reason you needed, Mom?” I asked.

“Olivia was kidnapped and I had no one else to turn to,” he explained. “The situation seemed dangerous so I called someone more dangerous.”

“Your secretary? Is she okay now?” I asked, completely in shock that something like that had happened.

“Yeah she is. I forgot to tell you but she and I are officially a couple now,” he answered.

“In other words, my blackmail is useless,” I said.

“Yes, something like that,” he replied. “Thanks for trying though.”

“Don't flatter me, big brother,” I sighed. “How did you convince her?”

“I gave her every incriminating evidence I had against her. I offered her the man she wanted to kill also happened to be the person who kidnapped Olivia,” he answered.

“Why are you telling me everything?” I asked. “Aren't we supposed to be cautious of each other?”

“I don't think so,” he answered. “I'm sorry for not being a good brother all these years. I want you to know if you ever run into a problem. I will be here to help.”

“If you wanted to help, then maybe you should have held on to the evidence you had against mum a little longer,” I scolded him. “But I'll take that offer. Thank you Lucas.”

“You're welcome Tabby,” he said before hanging up.

Tabby, huh? So, this is what having a nickname felt like?

With the warning from Mother and that from Shawn, I put out a call to all my networks to have them look into everyone around me. If something was moving, I needed to stay ahead of the game. I was never the type to be caught unaware.

When I arrived at the hospital, I saw Bruce. The argument from the previous day was still lingering in our minds. We were unable to say anything to each other.

“Good morning.” He was a little fussy today.

“Good morning, Bruce,” I returned his greeting. There was no need for me to be hostile.

After the greeting we both went our ways. I was very disappointed in him and the fact he had chosen not to tell me what it was that was bothering him. I decided I was going to look into it after.

Work proceeded smoothly. My preparation for Zurich was complete and all I had to do was to attend the event. I could bring a plus one, and that would be Bruce. I just hoped that we would be able to settle whatever was bothering him before that day.

“Or before this day ended at least,” I said to myself.

There was a knock on my door. “Dr. Hill? Are you busy?”

“Alex? You can come in. What seems to be the problem?” I asked as he opened the door and made his way inside.

“Well it's the board,” he answered, a worried look on his face.
