It’s nothing like I’ve ever experienced before, and it is quite overwhelming, but in the best way.

We practically spend every waking minute together as we work together during the day and spend most nights in each other’s company. We take every opportunity we can toravage each other, once in the office bathroom in the middle of the workday. I’m still surprised that no one caught us. It’s way more than that though. Our physical connection is strong. Sometimes I feel like it can move the world, but our emotional connection is off the charts.

I think I’m falling in love with him, but I try my hardest not to think about it too much. I can’t be sure where he is in his journey and I don’t want to get my hopes up.

Work has been better.Like he promised, he has pulled back a lot and has given me the reins withDeLisle. Speaking of which, I am in my office taking a break after a long day when Travis walks in.

A huge smile overcomes my face the moment I see him.

“Hey,” I say.

“Hey.” He walks up to my desk and holds out an envelope. “Happy birthday.”

I smile. “It’s not my birthday.”

“No, but it is in three days.”

“How do you know that?” I narrow my eyes at him.

He raises an eyebrow. “How do I know? You told me.”

“No, I didn’t.”

“Yes, you did. We’ve had so many conversations you probably don’t remember.”

“No, I know for a fact that I didn’t tell you when my birthday is, because I was keeping it from you on purpose.”

“What? Why?”

“Because I don’t like my birthday.”

“Who the hell doesn’t like their birthday?”

“Me.” I shrug.

“Why?”

“Because, historically it’s never been a fun day. Something always seems to go wrong on the day.”

“Well, this birthday is going to be different.” He holds out the envelope again.

I climb to my feet and reach across my desk and grab the envelope. “Again, how did you know it’s my birthday in three days?”

“I have my ways…” He wiggles his eyebrows then points at the envelope. “Open it.”

I laugh as I shake my head and tear the envelope open. I pull out two pieces of cardboard and look down at them. They are handmade First Class airplane tickets to Paris.

“What’s this?”

“Well, you said you’ve been to Paris so many times but have never had a chance to truly see it because you’ve always been working while you were there. So I thought for your birthday we could take the week and head off to Paris.”

I am astonished. I remember saying that in passing. It was so long ago that I don’t even remember when I said it. “I can’t believe you remember that.”

“I remember everything you tell me, Paige.”

I can feel color rise to my cheeks. “And what’s with the handmade tickets?”

He waves his hand in the air. “Those are just props. You know, for effect? I have my own private jet, so we won’t be needing tickets.”
