Again, I run a hand over my face. “I can’t go. I mean, what would Seth think of me going out with a guy he’s never met?”

A huge grin spreads across Vivian’s face. “Hewashot. Wasn’t he?”

“What are you talking about?” I deflect.

“You’ve got your panties in a bunch and you wouldn’t be getting all flustered and creating all of this‘what would Seth think’drama in your mind if he wasn’t,” she says with a smirk.

Anna harrumphs. “Twice in one night. Didn’t think you had it in you to surprise me, Viv.”

She beams back.

“Look, fine. Yes, he was hot. But he’s my best friend,” I say, feigning nonchalance.

“Wasyour best friend,” Tasia quips with a pointed look.

“Right, right.” I nod like a bobblehead.

This whole thing is freaking me out. I need some time to think.

“Besides, you meet male clients all the time,” Anna points out. “Seth isn’t going to give a rat’s ass.”

Vivian nods and pretends to shoot Anna with her index finger.

“I’m totally not comfortable with how much we’re in agreement tonight,” Anna says, picking up her phone. “The world has fallen off its axis.”

A smile floats to my lips.

“Girl’s got a point,” Tasia says, a lopsided grin slowly creeping onto her face. “You meet clients all the time. Why would it matter if you had coffee with an old friend?”

I blink hard. “I mean, I guess it doesn’t.”

Tasia nods. “Good. Then it’s settled. You’re gonna meet him for coffee. Now, how about we check out these bookmarks.”

CHAPTER6

London

Four.

Four calls. Four separate voicemails.

Two excruciatingly long weeks.

Andzeroreciprocation from Lily.

Totally ghosted.

Had the guy at Dirty Deeds not warned me, I probably would have just let it go and taken her lack of reciprocity as the hint to fuck off.

Well, okay, letting it go would have been more difficult than that, but I would have done it anyway because that’s what guys do, right?

Move on and pretend it doesn’t phase us?

Instead, I’m standing beside my Escalade, in the chill May wind of the Twin Ports, so I don’t miss her when she exits the bookstore. It’s just gone past eight o’clock and I’m hoping I can convince her to go to dinner with me before Myles sends someone to hunt me down and haul my ass back to Nocté.

For whatever reason, I have this perverse need to see her—to get to know her as she is now. I just hope her husband can live with that. Hell, I hopeshecan.

“Hey there, lover boy.” I shift my gaze from the storefront of Dirty Books to the sound of the voice. The store clerk from Dirty Deeds is marching in my direction. “Waiting for our girl, huh?”
