Reaching out, I plant my hands on her shoulders and pull her in for a quick hug. I want it to speak for me so she knows I get where her priorities are, despite wanting to dig a hole and hide myself in it.

She hugs me back.

See, nothing weird here.

Totally friend zone. I’m cool with it.

Only, my body doesn’t get the memo and things stir below the belt the second she settles her body against my chest.

With a sharp inhale, I release her and take a step back.

Space—space is good.

Her eyebrows are still knit together when I chance a glance in her direction.

She doesn’t look happy. Not at all.

“What’s wrong?” I ask, suddenly concerned.

“You’re okay with it?” Her voice is strained and her words come out slowly, tentatively.

I nod, then swallow hard. “Of course. I’m sure it wasn’t easy having him travel so much.”

“It wasn’t,” she whispers, her gaze dropping to the ground.

“Well, I can see why you’ve needed to take some time the past few days,” I say, pulling on the back of my neck. My face heats and my jaw clenches.

Of course. She’s beenbusywithher husband.

Jealousy courses through my veins, the intensity of it taking me by total surprise.

Thoughwhyit’s a surprise is beyond me.

Hell, I should get my head checked out. I’ve clearly lost it.

Yes, London. They’ve been …catching up.

Get with the program.

I try desperately not to think about all the times they’ve had sex in the past three days, but my stomach bottoms out despite myself.

“You know, I’m glad that’s all it was. I was worried you—” I shake my head. “You know what, never mind. Glad it’s all good. I’m gonna—” I point to my truck.

Without saying anything else, I stalk toward my vehicle in a total daze.

Her husband is back.

She’s been with him all week.

Him.

While I knew she was married, there was something about the fact that he hardly even lived with her that made him feel like he wasn’t real. That’s stupid, I know.

I feel all eyes on me as I walk to my vehicle, but all I can think about is how I need to get away. Far,faraway.

I need to sort myself out and I can’t do it here.

“London,” Lily calls out.
