“How about I take you back to your place, and we burn off some of that energy you’re feeling?”

“Sounds like a plan.”

It wasn’t long until I parked in his driveway and leaned over to kiss Bennett, deep and slow, a kiss that grew like a building fire. When we broke apart, we were both panting, Bennett’s lips red and slightly swollen.

“Let’s go inside,” he murmured. Moments later, we were stumbling through his front door, kissing frantically. We kissed our way down the hall to his bedroom, where we both stripped and made quick work of each other’s bodies, giving in to the lust building between us. When we were finished, I held Bennett close and stroked his back while we caught our breath and enjoyed the quiet.

“This was nice,” I said after a while. I was fully prepared to get up and leave, despite the fact that my gut screamed I should stay.

There was silence for a moment before Bennett spoke again. “You should stay.”

“Stay?” I frowned, confused.

“Overnight. You should stay overnight. There’s no reason to drive home tonight. It’s late. Dark. No reason for you to drive home under these conditions.”

I laughed quietly. “You want me to spend the night?”

He bit his lower lip for a second. “I’d like that.”

I shouldn’t. There are a million reasons I shouldn’t.Those reasons all raced through my mind as I nodded. “Okay.”

A smile broke over his face. “Okay?”

“I’ll stay.”

Bennett sat up. “In that case, you’re on my side of the bed. Switch places with me.” His tone was light, with a hint of laughter.

“Oh, I see how it is. Can’t let the guest have his preferred spot, huh?”

He shrugged. “Gotta show you what’s what early. Otherwise, it’ll all fall apart later.”

“Whatever you say, darling.” I slid to the other side of the bed, and as Bennett climbed in, pulled him close. “As long as you’re next to me, I don’t care where I sleep.”

He grew quiet and still. “Yeah,” he murmured. “Same.” A moment later, he pressed a kiss to my side and hummed. “Goodnight, Dex.”

“Goodnight.” I kissed his forehead and closed my eyes, waiting for sleep to come.

Chapter Thirteen

Bennett

The next few weeks passed in a blur—a blur of work, texts and calls with Dex, kickball, and dates with Dex. Dex, Dex, Dex. No matter what I was doing, I wanted Dex to be a part of it and he seemed to have no complaints. He would take me out to dinner or some event his work was sponsoring, and then we would return to my place for amazing sex and sometimes, if I was lucky, he would sleep over. Waking up next to Dex was better than I’d ever imagined it could be.

By mid-April, I’d taken on a big job at work and was approaching my two-year anniversary of being with the company. I was staring down a promotion and pay raise, I had a new boyfriend, and my kickball team was on fire, winning game after game. To make things even sweeter, Mom’s treatment was going well, thanks to the financial support of the grant money I’d secured. Things seemed to be looking up.

At an Out and Kickin’ game one night, I was uncharacteristically distracted by my phone. Parker sat next tome on the bench while Cam kicked. He nudged me with his elbow. “You doing okay?”

I looked up, confused for a second. “Hmm? Yeah, I’m good. Why? Did I miss my turn?”

He chuckled and shook his head. “I was just checking. You’re on your phone a lot tonight. Didn’t know if it was something to do with your mom.”

“Oh. No. She’s doing okay. Treatment’s going well. I was just talking to someone.”

A small smile crossed Parker’s face. “Dex again?”

“How did you know?”

“Man, you’re always talking about him these days. You barely have time for Jock Strap anymore. It’s easy to see you’re falling for the guy.”
