She doesn’t respond, but her eyes fall shut, and she lets out a shaky breath. Her hands come up to cup my cheeks, and her eyes slowly open again. “Rav—” she gasps as another sob racks her tiny frame.

“Is alive. Presley, listen to me. She is alive.” She freezes at my words, tears still streaming down her face, but her eyes meet mine again. “She is alive. Vance and Stone are getting her back to the club so a doctor can help her. But she’s breathing. Angel, you both did good. You did so, so good. I am so proud of you.”

“I—” Her eyes flutter as her body goes lax in my arms and she passes out.

“Fuck! Rage, we need to go to the hospital. She needs to go to a hospital.”

Rage glances back at us. “We can’t. We can’t take either one of them there, Axe.”

“Fuck that shit. I don’t care. I will just kill anyone who tries to say or do shit. Both of them need a fucking hospital! Now! Take them to Vance’s wing!”

“Axe! Calm the fuck down. Right now. Doc knows what he is doing, and he has it under control. Unless he decides it is out of the realm of what he can do, then we stay at the club. We aren’t trusting Vance that much unless we have no other option. Now, check Presley’s heart rate.”

My fingers move to her neck, finding her pulse. Strong and fast.

When I relay that to Rage, he sighs. “Good. Now keep feeling it and relax. She is okay. She is probably exhausted, and her body and mind need a break from the strain it went through. Doc will check her over, but she will be okay.”

I tuck Presley’s head into my neck and keep my hand wrapped around her neck to feel her pulse while I rest my head on top of hers and close my eyes.

Fuck. I came way too close to losing her. I was such a fucking idiot.

Chapter Sixteen

Axe (Jackson)

Whenwemakeitback to the clubhouse, I carry a passed-out Presley into the club and straight towards the small medical room we have set up. It isn’t anything fancy, just a few beds and a wall of cabinets that hold medical supplies Doc has been collecting over the years. A few minutes after I get her in the bed and find a t-shirt to put on her, Doc comes bounding into the room, his brows pulled tight as he examines everyone.

“Talk to me,” he demands as he drops his bag on one of the other beds and starts checking over Presley. I fill him in on everything regarding her while he nods along.

“Her blood pressure is way too high, and she is more than likely dehydrated. I want to draw some blood and start an IV to fix that. Then we will just let her sleep and hopefully the rest will help. More than likely, her body is just trying to protect itself. Besides her blood pressure, which I will keep a close eye on, she is okay, Axe.”

I sigh and pull a chair up close to the side of the bed that Doc isn’t using and hold Presley’s hand. He draws blood and gets an IV bag hooked up before glancing at his phone.

“They’re here with Raven.” He makes sure the bed close to the door is clear and waits. A few seconds later, Stone comes through carrying Raven. As soon as he lays her down, Doc is pulling off the hoodie and shirt they used to put pressure on her wounds and starts checking her over. “Stone, help me roll her. I need to see if either of these have an exit wound.”

They get her rolled onto her side and Doc nods to himself.

“Good. This one,”—he points to the bullet that went through her lower abdomen—“was through and through. No bullet to get out. But her shoulder, there is no exit wound, so I need to get that one out.”

They roll her back onto her back, and Doc gets an IV in and gives her pain medications.

“These should keep her knocked out for a while.” He glances up at Stone, who is hovering close by. “Boy, if you aren’t going to give me space, then glove up and help me.”

Stone grunts but grabs gloves and gets ready to assist Doc. I can’t help but smile a little. Maybe a good thing will come out of this. Stone will stop hiding in the shadows.

They work on Raven for a while, and then my mom comes into the room. She looks over at Raven and watches them working for a minute before wiping at her eyes and coming over to me.

Her eyes roam over every inch of Presley and I, and I watch her shoulders drop like the weight of her worry is easing out of her.

She lays her hand on top of mine that is holding Presley’s. “They sent me in here. That grumpy, pompous asshole out there is getting impatient. I will sit with her and let you know the second she wakes up. You go kill the bastards that put my girls in this room,” she hisses, her eyes flashing with fury and a pain I have seen before.

“Hey, Mama.” I stand up and hug her tightly. “They will be okay. Everything is going to be okay.”

I say the words, but I know there is no strength behind them. I am worried about the outcome of everything. From Raven being hurt to Presley having to go through all of this again.

“Yes, it will. Because you are Axe. Don’t forget your name, son.”

I nod and pull back. After kissing Presley’s forehead and telling her I love her, I walk out of the room. I head to the main room to find Vance glaring at Rage with his arms crossed. “Alright, let’s fucking do this so I can get back to my woman.”
