Blade grins and stands in front of them. “Well, we’re about to change that.” He slowly walks around them, tapping his chin with a blowtorch in the other hand. “Hmmm, who’s up first?”

They keep their mouths shut, surprising me. They look fucking terrified, and one has pissed himself, yet they don’t move to give in and tell us anything.

Blade plays ‘duck, duck, goose’ with them until he finally picks someone, slapping them hard in the face when he screams goose in their ear. He turns on the blowtorch and asks, “Who told you where to find Axe? Who are you working for?”

He doesn’t speak. Blade simply shrugs and moves the torch closer to his face. The guy whimpers and squeezes his eyes shut. Blade tuts and waves at Rage, who picks up an eye speculum and walks behind the chair. Sugar grabs his face, holding it still while Rage forces the speculum in to hold his eye open. They release his head and Blade goes right for it. Lighting the torch up again and getting it an inch from his eye.

The guy screams from the heat of the torch alone. Blade cackles and Rage demands, “Fucking tell us what we want to know, and this all ends.”

“Okay, okay! Get that thing away from me,” he sputters, trembling and struggling to back away from the flames.

“You stupid piece of shit! Don’t say shit! The torture will be worse if we survive this!” the other guy yells.

Blade sighs and walks over to the wall of tools before returning a second later and prying the guy’s jaw open before shoving a ball gag in his mouth. “Better,” he grumbles and slaps his face a few times. He walks back in front of the other guy. “Go on then, spill or that blow torch won’t just hover in front of your eye next time.”

The guy swallows hard. “I work for Vance. We are both low-level guys. We want in, but we can’t get in until we prove ourselves. Vance wanted us to get Axe. He said that someone who is very important to him has beef with Axe and wants him brought in alive.”

Vance Brooks. Head of the Brooks family. A notorious gang a few towns over.Heis who is betraying us?

Sugar furrows his brows and steps forward. “Vance doesn’t hurt women. So why the fuck would he be helping Ben?”

The guy frowns. “What are you talking about? We were told to get Axe, not any women.”

Rage shakes his head, and we all stay quiet. He gestures towards the door so we all head back upstairs, leaving the shitheads down there. We go into Blade’s office, and everyone stands, but I take a seat in the desk chair. My body is about to give out on me soon.

Rage glances at me. “You can head home. We can handle this and fill you in later, after you get some rest.”

“No. I’m good. Let’s just get this shit done,” I snap.

Rage nods. “Right, well, we can call Vance. I haven’t talked to him since my father died. He checked in then to see if I really was taking over, and things didn’t go well when we decided to cut ties with the drug runs.”

I remember that. A few months after Killer died, Vance contacted us to set up a meeting. The meeting was tense, and Vance is understanding to a point, but he is also ruthless. He wasn’t happy that we were cutting ties and not allowing drugs to come through here anymore. But when we agreed to take on cases of women who were hurt in this area, that helped us keep a healthy alliance. He is still a fairly small gang. He runs drugs and guns, but he helps women and has a strict policy against hurting them. So us taking on any cases where women needed help over here made it easier on him.

He still doesn’t care for us, though, and if anything needs to be spoken about, he sends one of his other men to speak with us. Calling him is a risk, especially with two of his men tied up and injured downstairs. But I would hope that if he hears Presley’s story that would change things.

“Call him. I will tell him about Presley’s situation. Obviously, Ben has been lying to him.”

“Is everyone alright with that? There is a possibility that things won’t go our way and it could cause a huge fight between them and us,” Rage asks.

“I don’t think we have too many other options. I’ll call Nerds and ask him to lock shit down tight,” Sugar says, pulling out his phone. He explains everything to Nerds, then listens to whatever he says back, his face scrunching up with concern as he glances at me.

I tense, not liking this at all. As soon as he hangs up, I snap, “What the fuck did he say?”

“Presley is drunk again. Raven needed to get to work, so Nerds took her. He asked Raven where she was at before they left, and she said she was in the main room but must’ve gone upstairs. When Nerds got back, Presley was in the kitchen cookin’. Ryker and Grayson are stickin’ close, but she’s wasted.” He grimaces.

Why is she drinking again? She was literally just drunk last night.

“Axe? Do you want to head home?”

Shooting a glare at Rage, I snap. “Stop fucking asking me that. Let’s get this over with. Call him.”

They all eye me, but I don’t say shit. I am fucking worried for her, but I don’t think I can help her heal until Ben is dealt with. That fucker needs to be gone already.

Rage sighs and pulls out his phone to make the call. Placing it on speaker, he drops it on the desk.

“Rage. Been a long time. I’d say I am surprised, but since I haven’t heard from my men, I assume they failed?” he says with a sigh.

“They fucking failed. We have two left alive. If you’d like them back.”
