He slides his index finger through my slit, thrusting against my clit before using the soft tip of his finger to circle my entrance. My muscles seize when he’s inside of me.

“War, explain why we’re not getting skulled?” Vaden’s tone is low. If he didn’t sound like he was on the other side of us, I’d think he could see what the fuck War is doing.

“Hmmm?” War breathes against my neck and the vibration of his voice sends shivers down my spine.I need to fuck this man right now.Get him out of my system. Do it for the little girl with a crush…

He clears his throat as if his finger isn’t orbiting inside of me. “You all have your own diamond masks.” His tone doesn’t shift, and it bothers me that he’s unaffected. My knees turn to jelly but he catches me by a thrust of his hips. “If you haven’t noticed, they’re replicated by your family skull, only now exposing parts of your face. Thousands of diamonds have been welded together by thin webs of molted metal—in the girls’ case, it’s gold. They’re called Calvarias.”

My hand dips beneath the waist of his jeans and my teeth catch my bottom lip when the weight of him rests in my palm.Beneath his smooth skin, I feel the violence of his veins brush the pads of my fingers.

His fingers curl and the bottom of his palm crushes my clit in warning.

He continues. “And they’re down the hall. We don’t have light until we get into that room.”

“Walk straight,” Priest instructs, and War spins me back around with his grip on my pussy, as if I have no center of gravity, before withdrawing his hand.

As soon as I’m far enough away, it bothers me that I can feel the distance.

I also hate that he’s going to live rent-free inside my head until I can fuck him out of my system.

Goddammit.

There’s silence except for heavy footsteps as we head down the corridor. Someone opens the door at the end, and a vermilion hue illuminates through the crack. I follow both Priest and Vaden through until we’re all inside a small room with clear walls. On the other side of the glass is a bar. That same color light flickering from inside.

“Here.” Priest points to a glass table in the middle of the room. Not even demure lighting could melt the ice coming off that table. It’s flaunting a radiance so bright that it burns my retinas.

I catch his eyes when he slides one over to me. “Aw, brother… don’t tell me you already knew we’d be here.”

“I did.” His pupils dilate, and I know he’s gone again. “And you would need these eventually anyway.”

I bounce over all the masks that are on display in front of me.

“What did I say, Halo?” War interrupts my admiring from the other side of the room. “What if the game is you?”

I watch as he slowly lifts his mask to his face. Flourishing in an abundance of black diamonds that shade all the areas hisskull would, they leave a brilliant shadow over his cheekbones and eyes, lining the cracks of his original art in strings of diamonds. Where the white paint would otherwise be used, colorless diamonds fill. With only three quarters of his face covered, it leaves the soft curve of his lips exposed. His shirt does nothing to hide the tight cords of muscle, and I find myself enraptured by his fingers when his arms fall to his sides after securing his diamond mask.

A morbid shadow spreads over his face as the room tilts, and my breathing becomes tremulous as if it’s just him and I in the room together and no one else.

His pupils dilate when they rest on me, and that mask is not helping…

Why the fuck did the Fathers sign off on these? I guess getting your face painted was time-consuming.

“Halen!” Priest clicks his fingers in front of my face. I hadn’t realized I was the only one left not wearing her Calvaria.

I stare down at it and my throat dries. My finger glides over the abundance of white diamonds that would cover my forehead, cutting above the sharp boarders of my cheekbones and covering my upper lip. Where the shading of my eyes and nose usually is, the same black diamonds catch the lighting.

I blink up at Priest and reach out to touch his. Covering the same areas of his face as mine, there’s not a speck of light, with the radiance of midnight diamonds. Where they glisten over his upper lip, six sharp icicles elongate downward as teeth. Over his right eye are three bars that are made up of finer black diamonds, imitating a cage, and other slate-gray colors add dimension to the harsher lines around the mask. It’s different… yet perfect for him.

I look back down at mine. “Why so many diamonds? How much did they cost?”

Priest shrugs his shoulders. “Mom said at least a mill, which means it was three.”

I stifle a laugh. “Ain’t that the truth.” Before I can fasten it, hands cloak mine and my skin prickles.

Priest bares his teeth at him and for a moment, everyone stops.

This is bad. If Priest knows about us, it could ignite a family feud.

War ignores everyone and lifts it to my face. In a second, I’m looking through peepholes while he tugs on the ties at the back of my head.
