Jack showed him a picture of Tyler McCormick. “Is this the ‘dead guy’?”

“Yeah. That’s him.”

“Did Mr. Nichols tell you anything about the dead guy?”

“Yeah. He said, ‘Get rid of him.’”

“Did he tell you how Mr. McCormick became the dead guy?”

“Nope.”

“Did you ask him?”

“Nope.”

“Why didn’t you ask?”

The witness shrugged, as if Jack’s question were stupid. “If he wanted me to know, he would’ve told me.”

“Where were you when Mr. Nichols told you to get rid of the body?”

“In his house.”

“Where in the house?”

“In the garage.”

“Was Imani Nichols there?”

“No.”

It was Jack’s first score, and it came as a relief. “Was Imani Nichols in the house?”

“No idea. I just know she wasn’t in the garage.”

Jack would take that much and use it at trial. “What was the condition of the body when Mr. Nichols told you to get rid of it?”

“Dead.”

“Let me be more specific. Was there any blood?”

“No?”

“Any cuts or wounds?”

“None that I saw.”

“Was the body clothed?”

“Nope. Naked.”

“Completely naked?”

“Yeah,” he said, and then he smiled. “And he had a boner.”

A postmortem erection was rare, but Jack had heard of it before. “You’re saying that you observed an erection?” asked Jack.

“Yeah,” he said, on the verge of laughter. “Never seen a dead guy with a boner before. I guess he died happy.”
