He should. We formally met yesterday, and I distinctly remember introducing myself by name. He clearly didn’t bother to remember what it was, though, because he didn’t use it when he accused me of stalking him earlier, and he’s asking for it now.

I swallow past the lump in my throat. “It’s Lo.”

Javi’s brows draw together, a little crease forming between them. “What’s that short for?”

“Logan.”

His eyes flicker down to my crotch, then lift to meet mine. “But you’re a girl.”

“And you’re a boy,” I quip, taking a pointed gander at his manhood. My breath catches, and I do my best to school my expression when I return my gaze to his- because holyshitthat thing is impressive. Both long and thick, like a damn anaconda hanging out between his legs.

Damn.

“Are we done with the anatomy lesson?” I grumble in frustration, trying to ignore the sudden pulse thrumming between my legs.

“Sorry, I just…” Javi trails off, the tip of his tongue sweeping across his upper lip as he gives me a slow once-over that’s so heated it makes me want to squirm. “I’ve never met a girl named Logan before.”

My heart pounds harder. His scent, his proximity, his lingering gaze… it’s all too much. I draw a deep breath, trying my best to play it cool even though the heat crawling beneath my skin is becoming unbearable.

“Me either,” I shrug. “I’m named after my mom’s best friend. He’s a boy, by the way. He was there when my mom suddenly went into labor and he delivered me.” I wave a dismissive hand, flipping my hair over a shoulder. “It’s a long, weird story, but that’s the gist of it.”

Javi blinks at me through the darkness. “Wow, that’s… crazy.”

“Welcome to my life,” I chuckle.

He steps closer, the shadows cast by the trees overhead clinging to the sharp lines of his features. “I wanna know more, wanna knowyou, but I…”

“You have to get back to your pack.”

He nods.

I wet my lips with my tongue, retreating a step. “I understand. I have to get back too, before…”

“Before someone finds you with me?” he interjects with a knowing smirk.

I nod, taking another step backwards even though my instincts are urging me to move in the opposite direction, closer to him. I fight against them, giving him one last lingering glance before spinning around to head back where I came from, forcing one foot in front of the other.

My chest aches, my mouth’s dry. My fingertips tingle with the let-down of adrenaline.

“Wait!” Javi calls after me, and I pause my retreat, turning back around cautiously. “When can I see you again?”

The look in his eyes catches me off guard. It’s feral and hungry, his gaze sweeping over me like he’s trying to map out every curve of my body. It’s also desperate, his wolf shimmering gold in the onyx depths like they’re both hanging on for my reply.

Nobody’s ever looked at me like that.

I swallow hard, warring between the crippling uncertainty taking root in my bones and the wanton tendrils of desire curling deep in the pit of my belly. Before I can even decide which willwin out, I find myself asking, “Do you know where the old ski resort is?”

Javi nods quickly, his eyes still alight with liquid gold.

“There’s some cabins on the property to the west of the lodge,” I say, hoping I’m not making a terrible mistake. “Meet me there tomorrow at dusk. Number twelve.”

“Okay,” he murmurs, gravitating closer like he’s just as drawn to me as I am to him. “I will.”

My heart slams against my ribs, the bond between us practically humming in my chest as he moves nearer. “And don’t… try anything,” I warn. “My pack will rain down hell if anything happens to me. My brother’s the alpha.”

“I’d never. I swear.” He closes the last of the distance between us, holding out a hand and sticking out his pinky finger.

I furrow my brow, staring at it for a moment until realization dawns on me. A wry chuckle slips past my lips as I lock eyes with him again. “Pinky promise? What are you, eight years old?”
