“Nothing,” I laugh, turning back toward Javi. He meets my eyes, his lips tugging up in a smirk that tells me he totally just overheard that conversation.

“Next up!” he calls out, Chey and Seth exiting the field to make room for the next pair.

“Looks like we’re going to have to start construction on that new wing of the dorms sooner rather than later,” Archer comments, obviously impressed by the skills of the fighters from Javi’s pack.

Ourpack.

I’ve still gotta get used to that.

“Considering some of the places we’ve lived, my people will be more than happy to nab a spot in the recruit barracks,” Javi replies, watching as his next two warriors take their positions on the field. He suddenly snatches me around the waist, pulling my back to his front and leaning down to whisper in my ear. “Show ‘em some support, Luna.”

I clap my hands, whistling loudly from my place on the sidelines. “You’ve got this, Joel! You too…”

“Samson,” Javi provides, and when I call out his name, the guy’s face lights up.

“See, they adore you already,” Javi murmurs, his lips brushing the shell of my ear as he draws me in closer. The sensation sends a shiver racing down my spine and an all-too-familiar heat rushing to my core.

Damnit. This isn’t the time or place to get all hot and bothered by my mate.

Still, I can’t ignore the warmth of his body seeping into mine, or the way I can feel every hard inch of him pressing into me, the muscles of his chest rippling against my back as he tightens his thick arms around my middle.

“Mmm, you’re gonna have to stop thinking about whatever you are right now,” he groans, burying his face in my neck and inhaling deeply.

I wriggle out of his hold, slapping the back of a hand against his chest in admonishment. It’s slightly embarrassing that he can scent it every time I’m the slightest bit turned on. Damn tracker genes.

I peel myself away from my mate, moving to stand at his other side where Andie and her brothers are still debating the living situation at the squad complex.

“I think mixing the newbies in with our fighters in the barracks will be a good thing,” Andie says with a shrug. “Maybe they’ll stop bitching about being stuck in there if they get a dose of reality from someone who’s had it worse.”

“Easy for you to say from your big, cushy dorm room,” Ares snorts.

She shoots him a glare in response. “Hey, I don’t seeyougiving up your dorm.”

“I already offered to share with a roommate,” he quips. Then he leans in, waggling his brows. “As long as it’s a female roommate.”

“Keep it in your pants, Raines,” I laugh, shaking my head.

Andie whips around in my direction like she’s just realized I’m here, shouldering past her brother and sidling up next to me. “Hey are you two coming out tonight?” she asks, glancing past me to Javi.

I arch a brow. “For what?”

“Well it’s Thursday, isn’t it?”

I nod slowly, understanding dawning on me. “Yeah, but with so much going on lately…”

“What, you thought we’d needlessalcohol?” Ares snickers.

“Besides, it’s Javi’s first bar night as an official part of the alliance,” Andie reasons, wrapping a hand around my forearm and giving it a little squeeze. “C’mon, youhaveto come out! I’ve barely seen you lately.”

“That’s probably my fault,” Javi cuts in from over my shoulder.

“Oh, it’s totally your fault,” Andie fires back teasingly, smirking. “Don’t you know that if you wanna get the girl, you’ve gotta get in with her best friend?”

“I think that ship’s already sailed,” I laugh, leaning back against Javi and glancing up at him through my eyelashes.

“Eh, it’s not too late to earn some points,” he chuckles. He winds an arm around my shoulders and drops a kiss on the top of my head, looking back over at Andie. “Count us in.”
