How could he do this after what Clint did?

“Sovereign,” I whisper.

“Turn the page, redbird,” he rumbles.

Hand shaking and eyes blurred, I obey. The second paper is a deed of some kind. I have to read it three times before it makes any sense at all. What does it mean? Is he giving me the Garrison land?

“Sovereign, what is this?” I ask, my voice trembling.

He leans in, his chest warm against my back. His finger taps the empty line at the bottom below where he signed his name.

“Dual ownership,” he says. “Just sign your name.”

I shift, turning so I’m sideways on his knee. He’s watching me intently, clearly waiting for me to say something.

“So…we would have dual ownership of the Garrison Ranch?” I manage.

He taps the paper. “Read it again, redbird.”

He flips the map so the paper is side by side and it hits me like a brick wall. The land is consolidated into one piece. There are two dotted lines on the deed. My entire body tingles and I whip back around, my hands going to his chest. At the base of his neck, where the vein pulses when he wants me.

“You can’t do that,” I manage.

“We absorbed the Garrison land, I paid for it,” he says. “It’s all Sovereign Mountain Ranch now. And when you sign there, redbird, you’ll own it all with me. Is that what you want?”

He’s giving me equal ownership of Sovereign Mountain and all the land that goes with it. Including the Stowe and Garrison farms. If I sign my name, I’ll own it all alongside him.

My hand goes over my mouth.

“How’s it feel to be a billionaire, sweetheart?” he asks.

“You can’t do this.”

Sovereign Mountain is everything to him, he can’t just give me legal ownership of it. It’s what lifted him up and kept him safe all those years. It gave him back his dignity when that was stripped from him by the Garrisons. It’s a fortress in the mountains where he’s king.

Where he kept me safe.

“I can do whatever I want,” he says. “Now sign that paper so I can fuck my fiancée.”

He turns me around and pushes a pen into my hand.

So I sign it.

Not because I know what I’m doing, or what this means for our future. But because it hits me right then that he’s going to be my husband. His ring is on my finger. He’s going to get his vasectomy reversed and make me the mother of his children. I’mgoing to wake up every day for the rest of my life with Gerard Sovereign’s arms around my body.

With my head nestled against the bull skull on his chest.

And that’s all I really want.

He flips me around and pulls me close. Our mouths meet, just for a second.

“You look like an angel,” he says.

I cradle his face between my hands. His jaw is scratchy beneath my palms.

“Do you love me?” I whisper, just wanting to hear it in his words.

His lids are heavy. “I love you, redbird.”
