It's torture.
Brady takes a sip of wine, ignoring Ace's inappropriate dinner conversation.
"Well?" Liam leans forward. "Is she a decent assistant?"
Brady nods. "She's an excellent employee."
Taylor smirks. "Of course, you'd say that. You want to get laid tonight."
"What does getting laid mean?" Ben asks Ava.
"Can you guys shut up?" Ava's eyes widen. "There are children at the table."
"And Steve is at the table," Steve adds, making us all laugh.
"A toast," Dad announces as he raises his glass. "To our table growing every year with new faces."
I mouththank youto Dad before clinking my wine glass against everyone's.
The rest of the evening is jam-packed. We open presents, eat pie, play games, toast marshmallows, and sit around in food comas. The grandkids put on their matching pajamas and then Mia and Ace clear their throats.
"Uh," Ace nervously glances at Mia, "we have an announcement to make."
"Are you pregnant?" Liam asks.
"Liam!" Mia glares at him. "Why do you have to ruin everything?"
Liam shrugs. "I was just curious."
"We are pregnant," Ace reveals. "Mia took a test this morning."
Aunt Jenny jumps off Uncle Kyle's lap and walks over to Mia with tears in her eyes. "Finally,finally, I get to be a grandma."
"Yay," Emmy, the youngest Thompson cousin sarcastically comments with a roll of her eyes.
A line forms to congratulate Ace and Mia. But Brianna climbs into my lap and wraps her arms around my shoulders, pinning me in place.
"Mommy," she yawns.
"Yes?" I smile as I run a hand over her head.
"When will Santa be here?" Brianna asks.
"I don't know," I answer her.
Brady pulls his cell phone out of his jeans pocket and says, "They have an app that shows where Santa is right now."
"Really?" Brianna perks up.
I notice Steve shift uncomfortably across the room.
Brady opens the app and shows Brianna.
"He's in New York right now," Brady points to the screen.
"New York?" Brianna scrunches her nose. "Is that far away?"
