"Ah," Charlie leans forward as she taps her long red nails on the tabletop. "The assistant seems amused. Please enlighten us with your thoughts."

I swallow hard. "Me?"

My leg begins bobbing restlessly beneath the table. To my surprise, Brady's hand finds my knee, and he squeezes lightly.

"Yes, you," Charlie lifts her chin. "Why is this funny to you?"

Besides Brady, Angie, and Charlie, four other people are sitting at the table. They're all staring at me, waiting for an answer.

Here goes nothing.

"I guess I don't see the point in wasting time and energy on an app to deliver real-time analytics when social media sites already offer it for free," I shrug, hyperaware that Brady's hand is still on my knee.

"Excellent point," Charlie nods. "But I have five different social media sites. I have to open five different apps to track how well a product is selling in each space. What if there was one app that delivered all of the information in one place?"

"There isn't already an app for that?" I ask.

Charlie purses her lips. "Not that I've come across. Which is why I'm here. You could make money off this, Brady," she directs to my boss. "We could charge a small fee to download the app and then integrate ads to help cover the cost of developers and designers."

"I'll have to speak with Angie about it," Brady's hand leaves my knee. "And our engineers."

"You see the value in it, though, right?" Charlie tries again.

Brady leans back in his chair. "I'm not sure yet."

Charlie smiles wide. "You know I like a challenge, Brady. And we both know Ialwaysget what I want."

I scratch the side of my face, wondering why it feels like I'm intruding on something dirty and illicit.

"I'll speak with my team," Brady promises. "Now, who's ready to hit the slopes?"

Charlie crosses her arms over her chest as she watches Brady like a lioness about to pounce on an unsuspecting prey in the wild.

Everyone stands and heads toward the doors.

"Iz," Brady says my name while Charlie's gaze fixes on him. "I need to speak with you in my office."

I nod as I clutch the notebook to my chest, scared to walk by his redheaded business associate.

"Yeah, OK," I lick my lips nervously.

"Charlie," Brady gives her a smile that doesn't quite reach his gold eyes, "I hope you brought your snowboard."

"You know I did," she coos as she rises from her seat and saunters out of the conference room.

"She's..." Brady trails off.

"Scary," I finish for him.

Brady laughs. "She doesn't like the wordno."

"I can tell," I shudder.

He points to the door. "My office?"

I lead the way, ignoring the uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. Charlie will be here for two more days. I can manage, I think. Just keep my head down. Don't be late. Don't talk. Don't make a sound. Be invisible.

"What are you thinking?" Brady chuckles as he closes his office door once we're safely inside.
