Her brown eyes widen in shock. "Why not?"

So many reasons. The main one is that the Thompsons aren't known for being the best secret keepers. Once one knows, they all know. If they all know, someone might slip up and say something to Steve. That would cause issues. Issues I do not want to deal with. Steve leaves on Saturday. They can all gossip after that.

The fact that I even told Ava about the kiss is a miracle. But I had to tell someone. I couldn't keep it to myself. I should have, but I didn't.

"Because it's not a big deal," I answer.

"OK," Ava scoffs. "We both know that's a lie. Was there tongue?"

"We're not talking about it," I shake my head.

"There was!" she gasps.

"My lips are sealed," I smirk as I dump the mashed potatoes into a serving dish.

"Did he feel you up?" Ava waggles her eyebrows. "A little boob action?"

"I was wearing my puffer vest," I shake my head at her.

"As far as little sisters go," Ava raises her eyebrows at me, "you're the worst."

"Go make out with Jack," I toss at her.

"Oh, I will," she places a hand on her hip. "And then I'll give you a play-by-play so you'll know how to tell me about the next super hot kiss in the woods with Brady."

"You kissed Brady?" we both hear.

My eyes widen in horror as I turn. Thankfully, it's just Liam.

"No," I deny as Ava says, "Yes."

"About fucking time," Liam claps his hands together.

"You can't tell anyone," I warn Liam. "Not while Steve is here."

"Steve's on the back porch pouring his heart out to Uncle Matt about how much he misses you," Liam rolls his eyes. "Like, dude, grow up. You had her, you lost her, move on with your life."

"On top of keeping quiet about the kiss," I ignore Liam's swipe at Steve, "I was also hoping you were up for a drink at the Glorious Pig later."

"Uh, yeah," Liam grins. "Anything to get away from sappy Steve."

"Great," I nod.

"Why are you going to the Glorious Pig later?" Ava asks.

I hitch my shoulder. "For a drink."

"Sure," Ava narrows her eyes at me. "Sure."

Thanksgiving is awkward. Steve makes a point to sit right next to me, which only aggravates me. I keep telling him I need space. Clearly, our wires are getting crossed because he thinks that means staying glued to my side.

Every time a dish is passed around, his fingers purposely graze mine and he smiles at me.

A part of me feels bad for Steve. He's hoping he can turn things around. He's hoping he can win me back by showing up. He's hoping I'll change my mind.

But after that steamy kiss with Brady in the woods, Steve's touch can't hold a light to Brady's. I hadn't realized what I'd been missing until my back was against a tree and Brady's tongue was licking the top of my mouth.
