My Aura fell asleep in my arms. I couldn’t sleep, though. I knew she didn’t believe that I was a virgin, but since I couldn’t remember having ever been with a female, to me, it felt like the truth. I liked the idea of Aura being my first.

I watched her sleep for an hour, then she stirred in my arms, turned around, and snuggled against my chest. Her face was pressed to my heart, and I was afraid she might not be able to breathe. She slept for another hour, then started fussing again, as if she couldn’t find a comfortable position. She opened her eyes, and our gazes met.

“Why aren’t you sleeping?” she asked.

“I can’t sleep. All I want to do is look at you.”

“You were watching me sleep?” She blushed. “Aww... I don’t know what to say to that.”

“Are you cold?”

“No.” Her stomach rumbled then, and she gave me a sheepish smile. “I’m hungry, though.”

“I’ll bring you something to eat.”

“I’ll come with you. I want to see Fluffy.”

For a second, I didn’t know who Fluffy was. Then I remembered the baby rabbit that had gotten her lost. I didn’t know how to feel about the creature. She loved it, though, so I had to pretend at least, and hope I’d come to care about it once I got to know it better. Aura had made the choice to follow it and rescue it. I had to remember it wasn’t exactly its fault she had almost died of hypothermia.

“All right,” I said.

I helped her up, and she held on to me when her knees almost gave out. She giggled, then forced herself to stand upright. I could see my seed spill down the inside of her beautiful legs, and I felt proud. I’d marked her as my own. It was entirely possible that we’d made a baby tonight.

“I have to wash first,” she said. “You go ahead and make us something to eat. It will be the last time, by the way. Starting tomorrow, I want to cook.”

I frowned. “So, I won’t be allowed to cook for you anymore?”

“Occasionally,” she said.

“But I love cooking.”

“You can cook for Frost, then. I love cooking too. When was the last time someone cooked for you, Krampus?”

She started toward the bathroom, and I found myself mesmerized by the sway of her hips.

“Never,” I said. And I meant it. I didn’t think anyone had ever cooked for me.

“You’ve had to take care of yourself all these years,” she said. “All these centuries. You deserve to be pampered for once.”

I smiled. “Then I’ll let you cook for me. Starting tomorrow.”

“Well, technically, it’s already tomorrow. But I’m too tired now. I’ll let you do it.”

She slipped into the bathroom, and I went downstairs to prepare a board with meat, cheese, and vegetables for the both of us.

Frost was sleeping in front of the dying fire. I threw two logs into the fire to revive it, and Frost opened one eye to look at me, then closed it and went back to sleep. Our little adventure in the snowstorm had worn him out.

In the kitchen, I first checked on Fluffy. The bunny was sleeping in his box. He’d eaten the carrot and promptly eliminated it, which meant that the box was now smelly and had to be cleaned. I scooped him up and looked around for a good place to relocate him. If I simply left him on the table, he would probably start hopping around, getting himself lost once more, this time under my furniture. Aura expected to see Fluffy when she came down, so I couldn’t lose the damn creature. For lack of a better idea, I placed him in the breast pocket of my shirt.

I cleaned the box first, throwing Fluffy’s mess outside, but then I saw he’d made himself comfortable in my pocket and gone to sleep, and I felt like I couldn’t disturb him. Plus, Aura would appreciate that I was taking care of her pet. I heard her come down the stairs, so I started cutting the meat and cheese for our midnight snack.

She appeared in the doorway with Frost by her side. Great. So, he got up for her, but wouldn’t get up for me.

“Sit down,” I said.

“Thank you.”

“Wine?”
