“Someone’s in a good mood,” Julian said.

Elijah had just cleared a table, taken an order, and had hummed the entire time. He couldn’t stop thinking about last night. Hell yes he was in a good mood. He thought he’d regret what he’d done, but he didn’t.

“Trying to drag something personal out of me?”

Julian chuckled. “Okay, so I’m trying to drag something personal out of you. Tell me it’s Mason.”

Fuck, Elijah couldn’t keep what happened to himself. He never could keep any kind of secret. “We’re mates.”

Julian’s eyes rounded. “No way!”

Elijah felt himself blush. “Don’t make a big deal out of it. Stop acting like me finding someone is cause for a celebration.”

“I’d celebrate if you two got back to work,” Roman said from the order window.

“Elijah mated Mason,” Julian said proudly to Roman.

“You have such a big mouth,” Elijah grumbled. “I told you, not our boss.”

“Is that true?” Roman asked with a smile. “Congrats.”

“Really?” Elijah frowned. “No snarky comment, pussy cat?”

Roman narrowed his eyes. “I told you to stop calling me that. I take back my congratulations. I hope Mason eats you.”

“He already did.” Elijah’s brows shot up as he slapped a hand over his mouth. Damn, he really shouldn’t have said that.

Julian burst out laughing as Roman scowled. Mason just might kill Elijah if he knew Elijah was telling their intimate secrets. Maybe Elijah should get some duct tape and tape his own mouth so he wouldn’t say anything else embarrassing.

Julian threw an arm around Elijah’s shoulders and whispered, “It’s okay. Our brains get all rattled when it comes to our mates.”

Just then Sheriff Dominic Harper strolled in. He stopped and looked at them, and then Elijah shoved Julian’s arm off of him. “Swear, I wasn’t trying to steal your man. It’s Julian who keeps flirting with me.”

Sheriff Harper was a big guy, and as much as Elijah joked around, he didn’t want the bear shifter to eat him. He’d seen the sheriff pulverize a guy…wolf, because Ezekiel had been in his wolf form, and he didn’t want those powerful fists used on him.

Not that he thought Sheriff Harper would hurt him.

“Elijah mated Mason,” Julian said in a singsong way.

“The guy who owns Wild Tiger Barbeque?” the sheriff asked.

“One and the same,” Julian said.

Elijah watched as the sheriff pulled Julian into his arms, uncaring that the customers saw them.

“Come on, you two,” Roman said from behind the counter. “I already gave Julian two weeks off so you two could get that out of your system.”

Elijah rolled his eyes. If Julian felt half of what Elijah felt toward Mason, there was no way anything would work its way out of their systems.

At least not for the next couple hundred years or more.

Chapter Six

Elijah had the day off, but he’d opted not to go with Mason to Wild Tiger because sitting around a restaurant all day wasn’t his idea of relaxing. His friends were at work, so Elijah had the day to himself.

Normally he would clean and hang out with his granddad, but the house was clean, thanks to his neighbors, and his granddad hadn’t left his wife’s side.
