He watched as Elijah savored every bite of the rib tips and mac and cheese. His eyes closed in pleasure as he indulged in the decadent flavors.

“Here’s the next order,” Kenny said from behind him.

Mason turned and grabbed Gage’s and Drake’s orders, setting them on the counter. Then his attention was back on Elijah.

When Elijah finished his meal, he approached Mason at the counter. “That was amazing,” he said. “I’ve never tasted anything like it.”

Mason felt like preening, which wasn’t like him, but he’d preen like hell for his mate. “I’m glad you enjoyed it,” he replied with a wink.

Elijah leaned in closer, his breath warm on Mason’s cheek. He spoke softly as he asked, “Do you have any dessert?”

Mason’s heart skipped a beat. Did Elijah feel the pull as strongly as he did? “I do,” he said, his voice lowering to match his mate’s. “Peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream.”

“Seriously?” Elijah’s eyes widened in delight as his voice returned to a normal volume. “I’ll take it, but I’m still paying full price for my meal.”

“He won’t take your money,” Gage called out from Elijah’s table. “Try all you want, but he’s going to turn you down.”

“Like he turns me down,” Drake said. “A big tease.”

“Coming right up,” Mason said to Elijah, ignoring Drake.

When he slid the plate to Elijah, their hands touched, and damn if the cliché of sparks flying didn’t happen. Elijah yanked his hand back, staring curiously at Mason. “Static shock.” He laughed. “I hate when that happens.”

It wasn’t static shock, but Mason kept that to himself. “You just might fall into a food coma after all.”

“It would be worth it.” Elijah took his plate to his table while Kenny brought out the large order Mason had been working on when Gage, Drake, and Elijah had arrived.

“All set to go.” Kenny placed the plastic bags on the counter. “The firemen have hearty appetites.”

That was because they were shifters. Mason knew all of them, and he ate just as much as they did. “Can you run this order over to the fire department?”

“I don’t have a car,” Kenny said.

Mason dug his keys from his pocket. “Take mine.”

“Really?” Kenny looked at Mason as if he had two heads. “You never let anyone touch your precious truck.”

Mason wanted to stick around and talk to Elijah. He didn’t want his mate leaving before he got back, so he was willing to entrust his brand-new Ford Ranger to a teenager. He really had it bad if he was willing to let Kenny drive it.

“No.” Kenny shook his head. “I’m not driving it. If something happens to your truck, my mom will kill me.”

Fuck. Mason ran a hand through his hair. “Okay, I got this.”

Kenny looked relieved. “Thanks. I’ll cook anything you want, mop, do dishes, but I’m not driving your Ranger. You just got it three weeks ago.”

Well damn. It seemed Mason was making the delivery. Too bad he couldn’t talk Elijah into coming along. They’d just met, and it would seem creepy if Mason asked.

“I’ll deliver the food,” Gage offered from where he was seated.

Mason shook his head. “Do you even know how to drive?”

“Just because Drake drives me everywhere doesn’t mean I don’t know how,” Gage argued.

Mason arched a brow.

Gage blushed. “How hard can it be?”

“Hell no,” Mason said. He took a chance as he looked at Elijah. Hopefully his mate wouldn’t think of him as a creep. “Do you want to help me deliver this food?”
