This time when the demon warriors attacked, Kalin couldn’t keep them back with his whip. They descended on him like an avenging force.

When another stranger appeared, Zayde wasn’t sure he could take much more. This was a casserole of chaos.

But the newcomer felt different. There was something about him that made Zayde want to bow. He wasn’t sure why, either.

“Who is he?” Zayde asked Denali.

“I have no idea,” Denali said.

“Me, either,” Roman replied as he pulled Gage harder to his chest, like he could feel what Zayde sensed about the newcomer.

Instead of joining the fray, the newcomer walked over to Roman. “May I?” He gestured with his head to Gage. “I promise I will not harm him.”

Roman looked reluctant but slowly pulled Gage away from him.

“Wait!” Zayde ran to them and put himself between the guy and Gage. “Who are you, and what are you going to do to my friend?”

The man’s intense blue eyes bore into Zayde, like the guy could see right into Zayde’s soul. “I am the Keeper. I can heal him.”

“Let him,” Roman said. “Move away, Zayde.”

“What’s a Keeper?” Zayde asked.

“Zayde,” Roman said in a warning tone.”

“But you don’t know him,” Zayde argued. “How can you so willingly hand Gage over if you don’t know this guy?”

“I am the universe, Zayde,” the newcomer said. “I created everything, so step aside before I blink and you vanish from existence.”

“Are you serious?” Zayde wasn’t sure what to believe. Panahasi was Life. Jaden was Death. And now he had someone in front of him who claimed to be the universe. His head hurt from trying to keep it all straight.

“About making you vanish?” The Keeper smirked. “No. I would never harm a mate.”

Reluctantly, Zayde moved aside, ignoring the battle raging on behind him. Panahasi and his men had it under control, and right now, Zayde was more concerned with Gage.

The guy hunkered down in front of Gage and simply looked into the fairy’s eyes. Zayde waited for something to happen, like the blue light that had appeared from Panahasi’s hand, but all the Keeper did was stare at Gage.

Gage gasped and then sat up, looking at the Keeper. “Thank you.”

Zayde frowned. “Just like that?”

Yes, just like that. I am also known as the Primal Source, Zayde. Keep that between us.

Zayde’s brows shot to his hairline. “Did you just talk to me in my mind?”

You would be amazed at what I can do.

With a smirk, the Keeper turned, walked toward the battle, and grabbed Kalin, who was now on the ground, bleeding and panting. He hauled Kalin to his feet.

“This time you won’t escape.”

“No!” Kalin shouted, trying desperately to get away, but his efforts were useless.

Zayde’s jaw dropped again when Kalin turned invisible. He was going to need a vacation from his damn vacation just to come to terms with his new reality.

“That won’t work,” the Keeper said. “I already have you.”

Then the Keeper vanished.
