“Hey, sorry. I tripped,” I hear a guy say, and my entire body freezes.

Aaron.

Beau takes the opportunity to inhale a deep breath and calm the ravenous person that was emerging from each of us.

Me, on the other hand? I only see fire.

Aaron continues walking by like he didn’t just interrupt our kiss, and Beau doesn’t seem fazed.

Of course he doesn’t. He has no idea he ratted on us on the football field or that he kissed me in this same house the last time we were here after he saw me dancing with Beau.

I want so bad to call him out, but I bite my tongue and instead turn my attention back to Beau, giving him a sly smile.

“Oh, girl.” He chuckles. “You might just be the death of me. I’m not sure my body can handle another attack from your dad.” He leans in and gives me a sweet kiss this time. “But these lips just might be worth the torture.”

I lean in and kiss him the same way he just kissed me. “Glad to hear I’m worth it.”

“Mmm, always.” He pulls me to him again, but our kiss is cut short when Gabe turns on the lights.

“Sorry, guys. Party’s over. My neighbors just stopped by and threatened to tell my parents if I don’t send everyone home. Now.”

Beau drops his head back with a growl of frustration before grabbing my ass and bringing me closer to him. “We’ll have to take a rain check for tonight.” He gives me a peck. “I guess we’re out of here.”

Justin and Heather head to the kitchen, hand in hand. “Let’s go to the spot in the country,” Heather says.

Justin shrugs his shoulders. “I’m in. You guys game?” he asks Beau.

Beau checks with me, and I nod. “Sounds good to us.”

“We’ll go too.” Aaron hits Sam in his stomach lightly, as if to say,You’re coming too.

“Yeah, I’ll go,” Sam agrees with nonchalance.

“No. Sorry. No one invited you,” I state clearly, making everyone pause in their tracks.

Aaron’s eyes go big, and I hear a couple of people say, “Damn!” in unison behind me.

Aaron steps up to me, and I feel Beau stand up directly behind me from where he was still sitting.

“What did you just say?” Aaron asks.

I don’t back down. “I said, you’re not invited.”

“Well, guess what, little Miss Zeeman,” he says with a taunting voice. “There’s no way in hell I’m going down for your actions again. Last time I let you leave my sight, you went to the damn football field, and I paid the price.” He slams his fist against his chest. “So, until your dad gets off my ass, I’m not allowed to leave you in public. Anywhere.”

My eyes narrow, and I see red. “You’re the one who ratted us out that night!”

When he has the nerve to laugh, I step toward him, but Beau holds me back.

“Hey, it’s not worth getting so worked up over,” Beau whispers into my ear, but he has no idea just how much it’s worth it.

Aaron steps closer to me, and I instinctively step back, right into Beau’s chest.

“No. That’s not what happened. You guysgot caught on the field. News flash”—he holds up his pointer finger like an idiot, trying to make his point—“there are people who live right next to those fields and saw you guys drive in. And even though I wasn’t even there, I got in trouble.” He slams his chest again, then lowers his six-foot frame to be directly in my face. “And you want to know why?” I don’t respond, so he continues, “Because I’m supposed to protect you, and he said I let him down that night when I let you leave with him. So, no, I’m not leaving you again.”

He pushes his way past me, and I just stand there in shock with my heart beating out of control.

When Beau rubs his hand down my arm, I’m brought out of my rabbit-hole thought process, but only for a second because I realize the scene we made. Embarrassed, I push my way past him and head out to Justin’s truck.
