“Nice of you to finally make an appearance at one of Ben’s parties,” I state as I crack open the beer.

“I’m surprised you even noticed with Trish hanging all over you all night,” she bites back.

“Oh, I noticed,” I say, then instantly question what I’m doing. I don’t flirt with Natalie. I try to save myself by adding, “Jealous much?”

She lets out a harsh laugh and shakes her head. “Get over yourself.”

As I watch her walk back to the room, glued to the way her ass looks in those jeans, all I can think about is getting under her, and that’s a huge fucking problem.

I don’t care how banging her body is, everything else about her is rotten to the core.

When I walk back out to where everyone is and look at Trish, who’s eyeing me like she wants to get out of here, I’m suddenly very tired and, honestly, kind of bored with the idea of being with her again.

Blaming it on the beer, I walk up to Ben, who has a half-asleep Maya curled on his lap. “Hey, I’m going to crash here tonight. Is that cool?”

“Yeah, you know where everything is.” He motions to Maya. “We’ll probably crash out here anyway.”

We slap hands, and I head back to his house without saying a word to anyone else.

Trish texts me:

Where did you go?

I respond with:

Sorry not tonight.

Then, I shut off my phone knowing she’ll whine about me leaving, and I walk my sleepy ass to Ben’s house to crash for the night.

I wake up the next morning and head back to the barn. I’m not surprised when I enter and see Ben and Maya wrapped around each other, fast asleep. Any other person who entered this barn and saw them like this would think they definitely fucked last night, but I know sleeping like this is all they ever do.

I slap Ben’s foot, making him jolt awake. “Get up.”

“No,” he whines and holds on to Maya tighter.

Her eyes flutter open, and she gives me a small smile. “Morning, Dalt.” Only she’s allowed to call me by that nickname.

“Morning. You guys want help cleaning this place up?” I ask.

“Not if it means I have to get up,” Ben says.

“Then, you’re on your own.” I laugh.

“Maya will help me.” He nuzzles into her neck.

I watch as Maya’s eyes flutter shut. Shaking my head at them, I head out to my truck to go home, where I’m sure no one even noticed I was gone all night.

Sundays are spent being lazy at Ben’s place and I’m so ready to do just that.

When I arrive, Maya and Ben are already cuddled up watching a football game making me laugh. “Have you guys moved at all since I left yesterday morning?”

Maya grins from ear to ear. “Not really.”

“We showered and ate, that’s all that really needed to be done anyway,” Ben replies.

“Showered? Together?” I tease, pointing between the two of them in question.

“Shut up,” Ben says throwing a pillow at me.
