He lowered his hips to hers, and she felt the heaviness of his groin. She was wet and ready for him.

His chest brushed across her tender nipples as he settled more fully over her, his arms now braced next to her shoulders. The feel of his naked body on hers was a warm, heavy press of ropey muscles. Sensations and emotions raged through her, and she flexed her legs, thrusting up against him, an incoherent desperation possessing her.

She was desperate for all of him. “Jay, please,” she whispered.

His eyes darkened as he oh-so-slowly pushed into her, his gaze turning hot and hungry as her body closed tightly around him. He pulled out of her slightly, dragging the length of his cock against her still-sensitive flesh, as if he was trying to make the moment, and the pleasure last. He groaned and shuddered, then thrust back in, harder and further this time, causing her to gasp and arch beneath him.

And still, it wasn’t enough. She wrapped her legs around the back of his massive thighs, urging him deeper. “Give me all you’ve got, sailor,” she murmured huskily. “I want it all.” She wanted everything he had to give—physically and emotionally.

With a low, rumbling half laugh/half growl that reverberated in his chest, he sank back in, withdrew and surged back again, his strokes lengthening, his pumping hips gaining momentum. He’d lost his careful balance, and his control went with it. His thrusts grew urgent and demanding, and wholly primal. Friction, pressure, and heat fused together in a tangle of sensation, until her entire being focused on the connection of their bodies and the imprint of his soul on hers, their bodies swelling with impatient, relentless, need.

Framing her face in his hands, he seized her mouth with his, as if his next breath of air could only come from her. His kiss was deep, laced with a desperate kind of passion she could taste with every sweep of his tongue and feel in the aggressive way he possessed her body.

She slid her arms around him, flattened her hand on the wall of flexing muscles along his back, and held on for his next aching, welcome thrust. Before long, he dragged his mouth from hers and stared down at her, his breathing shallow as his climax washed over him, through him. His face contorted in pleasure as he tossed his head back and arched against her hips, a helpless groan ripping from his throat as his flesh pulsed hot and hard inside of her and he shuddered from the sheer force of his orgasm.

When it was over, he collapsed on top of her, burying his face in the hollow of her neck while his heart beat strong and steady. She closed her eyes and held him close as he moved his hips caught in the aftershocks, as she immersed herself in the glow of his surrender to her. Reveling in the quiet, tender moment while it lasted, she could only think about how perfect and right it felt being with Kodiak, in every way.

No other man had ever reached her like him, had ever made her feel this complete. Tears formed in her eyes and slipped down her temples.

And when her time with Kodiak was over and they both went their separate ways, she instinctively knew that no man ever would again.

Her skin tingled everywhere, hot and alive with sensation. And she could see a future, at last, one where she could make amends, do something for Afsoon, figure something out, and get him back. Get out of the quicksand she’d made of her life. She could honor her government’s promise, her promise for his dedicated and unflinching service. She could save his life and his family, or she would die trying.

Dragging one arm free, Kodiak cradled her head closer against him, the labored pounding of his heart vibrating through her. He inhaled raggedly, then brushed his mouth against the curve of her shoulder, his hold on her tightening.

Kaiya flattened her hand against the back of his neck, drawing him even closer. A tremor coursed through him, and he splayed his hand wide against the back of her head, holding her with a strength that was all-encompassing.

She drew a sated breath and ran her hand up his naked back, enjoying the feel of his muscles, so hard and unyielding, yet his skin so smooth and soft.

A jagged sigh escaped him, and he pressed a kiss against her neck, something profoundly poignant in the touch of his mouth against her. Her breath caught, and she dragged her fingers through his wavy hair, the ends curling. She liked it so much in its natural state. The way it framed his devastating features only drove home to her how uniquely stunning he was.

It was a long time before Kaiya was fully aware of anything but Kodiak. Then pieces of reality filtered through; the jumble of bedding beneath her, the feel of his smooth thighs against hers, the light that spilled into the room from the sun. But what she was most conscious of was the weight of him on top of her and the wet thickness of him still deep inside her. Closing her eyes, she slowly smoothed her hands up his torso, savoring the damp texture of his skin and the denseness of the underlying muscles.

Kodiak inhaled deeply, then eased some of his weight onto his forearms, the small shift rocking his pelvis against hers. The movement sent aftershocks of sensation shooting through her, and Kaiya clutched him, her breath catching. He withdrew from her and settled on his side, drawing her into the warm cocoon of his body. He caught a lock of her hair and rubbed it between his fingers.

“You pack a powerful punch, jaan,” he whispered.

She smiled, trying to will away the emotion that clogged her throat. Kaiya touched his face, her voice breaking. “Did you just call me darling?” The word was a term of endearment in Hindi.

He pressed his thumb across her mouth, his voice husky as he tucked her hair behind her ear. “Yeah, I did. You got a problem with it?”

She gazed up at him. “No,jaan, I don’t have a problem with it.”

He held her gaze for a moment, then lowered his head and kissed her, but despite the tenderness of that caress, she sensed something dark and troubling in him. Cupping his cheek, she drew away from him, her eyes searching his. “What’s wrong?”

He held her gaze for a moment, the disquiet in his eyes deepening, then he looked away, his expression taut. “We have something else in common besides our heritage.”

Her tone was gentle. “Tell me.”

He rubbed his thumb against her cheek, then looked at her, his eyes bleak. “I, too, lost a sister,” he said gruffly. “To suicide.”

At the mention of his sister’s death and the horrible circumstances, she had to fight the sting of tears as her own heart went out to him. She caressed his face, her fingers unsteady. “I’m so deeply sorry. Can you talk about why?”

He stared down at her, strain deepening the brown of his eyes, then he inhaled unevenly. “I have a pretty dysfunctional family. My dad is in jail for domestic abuse.” He closed his eyes, raw emotion in his tone. “I was blindsided by her action—not once did she exhibit any unhappiness during our life together—but then I realized she was like me, burying everything to accommodate my mom and avoid conflict with my dad. For her, the pain and the anxiety got too much, and her only note to us was: ‘I’m leaving for the sake of peace.’ I was never sure if she meant our peace or her own.”

Kodiak’s phone chimed and he got out of bed as she admired his economy of movement, gracefully snatching up the phone and answering.

“Where?” He said, his whole body going into SEAL mode, muscles tightening and delineating all over that impossibly beautiful man. “We’ll be there as fast as we can.” He disconnected the call and said, “We’ve got to go. They’ve got David Larkin, and he’s not in a negotiating mood. He doesn’t believe his wife and children are safe. We’re to pick them up and bring them to base.”
