“And if she wasn’t, you’d what…not go?” Cade cackles. “Does Tate just carry a tiny purse around with your cock in it? Since it probably doesn’t have to be a big one.”

“Huff, shut the fuck up, would you?” Link growls, his shoulders tensing. “Or go snort something up your nose or get drunk and piss yourself.”

“I didn’t piss myself. I pissedonmyself while I was trying to piss,” Cade corrects him, completely unfazed, though I’m sure Link mentioning snorting something probably doesn’t sit right with him.

Cade’s been to rehab before. And honestly, I’m surprised he even has a spot on the team. Especially since Coach LaConte runs a tight fucking ship.

“Whatever,” Link mumbles.

I think we all know Cade is just being typical Cade. He isn’t a bad dude. He just has a shit ton of demons. And I think the only way he can stand himself is by cracking jokes. Even if they are usually at others’ expense. And as our captain, it’s Link’s job to keep his guys in line.

“Let’s roll, Thompson.” Link jerks his chin toward his truck. “After this shitstorm of an audition, I’m ready for a beer.”

“Same.” I nod, pulling his truck door open.

We head into the studio. After receiving an email from Jolene late last night, we know the time has come to find out who we’ll be matched up to dance with. I’m hoping for one of the dudes I’ve heard is nice. Watson Gentry has literally been labeled a golden retriever. He also isn’t known to sleep around, which means he might actually have morals. Unlike most of the others. And in this situation—where I’ll literally have to teach someone what to do—a golden retriever sounds pretty darn good. Besides, he’s hot. Really hot.

“Let’s get this over with, ladies,” Ryann mutters, pulling the studio door open. “I really don’t want Cade Huff. He’s a whole fucking mess.”

“He’s so hot though,” Lana gushes. “I love a bad boy. Remember bad-boy Brody O’Brien? The dude who started this charity? Well, before he grew a heart and fell in love, I got to ride that train.” I swear her mouth waters as she says the words. “He had no clue who I was a few weeks later when we had a run-in at the coffee shop. But that one blissful half hour?” She fans herself. “I’m melting, just thinking about it. He. Was. Huge. But more than that, he surrrre knew how to use it.”

I open my mouth to answer when I feel a body so close to mine that my skin prickles, sending a jolt creeping up my spine. Before I can crane my neck to look, Hunter’s voice is in my ear.

“Nice sweatpants, Little Bird,” he coos. “Oh, and the bun? Wow. Sex-yyyy.”

Whipping around, I shove his chest. “Piss off, Thompson.”

“Oh, but I have to be here. In your little tiny-dancer world,” he whispers, eyes narrowed on mine. “You’d better just hope they don’t pair us up. Actually…you’re probably hoping they do.”

I widen my eyes, tilting my head. “I’m surprised your girlfriend let you off that leash long enough to be here tonight.”

His eyes darken with anger, but he keeps his composure. “And what girlfriend is that? Enlighten me.”

“Why, Paige Sanders, obviously. The same girl you’ve been following around like a lost puppy dog for years now.”

“She’s not my girlfriend anymore,” he growls.

“Yeah, that’s what I’ve heard. But it sure looked like it last night.” I tap my chin with my finger. “The crotch grab was what threw me off.”

“Says the girl who had her ass dry-fucked by some random dude.” He nods, putting his lips to my ear. “Don’t worry, Little Bird. I saw you watching me and Paige, wishing it were you.”

“Maybe in your dreams, preppy boy.” I turn my head, peeking at him through my lashes. “You might think this campus is yours because you can push a puck around on the ice, but you’re wrong. You’re in my world now. And you’d better watch out.”

Walking away from him, I don’t miss at least ten of the girls in here staring at us. Some in awe, others confused. And then there’s Ryann, who looks worried. Poppy just looks plain pissed off, likely not wanting the attention to be off of her for five seconds of her life.

And while we all anxiously wait for Jolene to break the news on who our partner is, I keep my eyes focused straight ahead. Yet, somehow, I still feel Hunter’s smirk as he watches me, trying his best to get under my skin.

And even though I’m a tough bitch, it’s working.

Hunter

On one hand, I really don’t want my name to be said in the same sentence with Sutton’s, signifying we’re stuck working together. On the other, I don’t want her to work with any of my horndog teammates either. Best case would be that she gets paired with Link or one of the other dudes who has a girlfriend. That would be my perfect scenario. Because not only would I not have to deal with her bitchy ass, but I also wouldn’t have to think about someone like Cade putting his hands on her, charming her into bed with him, like he does every other chick at Brooks. Or Watson, who girls are obsessed with because he’s actually fucking nice.

Jolene steps before us all, and next to her, surprisingly enough, is Coach LaConte. Even I can tell his grumpy ass thinks it’s funny that he dragged us into this shit.
