So, here’s to the lost boys like me. May they also find their one and only to love the darkness right out of them.

Haley

“Cover Me Up” by Morgan Wallen plays as Cade holds me close, smiling down at me, and I can feel his heart beating quickly against mine.

“I’m so fucking lucky,” he whispers, blinking back the tears in his eyes. “I can’t believe you’re mine.”

“I’ve been yours long before today, Cade.” I smile. “I think from the day I moved into the house, it was all over. There was no going back.”

“I know I haven’t made it easy. No matter how much time passes with my sobriety, I know you’ll still worry about me, and I’m so sorry for that. And I’m sure our life is going to look a lot different from a lot of our friends. With no pro hockey, there’s no fancy mansion or jet-setting around the country. But I meant what I said. I don’t need all of that when I already have everything I need right here.” He leans down, kissing the top of my head. “My angel.”

“I have more than I could ever need.” I nod. “Also, I have no idea how we fit yourone year soberparty, a wedding, and a reception into one day. But I’m impressed with your planning.”

He smirks. “You forgot to mention all that good sex earlier.” He leans down, putting his lips closer to my ear. “And I can assure you, there’s lots more of that coming. Mom’s watching Eli tonight. Which means … you and me. Alone in a swanky hotel room.”

I feel my body heat as a shiver runs up my spine just before he kisses me.

When he pulls back, Kat cuts in, passing Eli to Cade, and we hold him between us. And how lucky are we? We get to finish our first dance as a married couple, holding our son.

A year ago, I felt like my entire world was ending. Now, I’m realizing that was just the path we needed to take to get to this moment right here. A moment that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

I’ve read hundreds of romance books in my life. But our story, even after the pain, is my favorite.

The End
