She rakes her fingers through her short black hair, and then absent-mindedly plays with a hank, twirling it around her finger while she moves to examine another bookcase.

I can’t take my eyes off her. I really can’t. I’m supposed to be reading this goddamn dreadful contract, something I absolutely detest doing, and instead, I’m gawking like a depraved pervert.

She begins to turn and I immediately drop my eyes to the pages before me. I can’t even see the words, but I pretend to, and even flip over a page like I’ve got my shit together.

Focus, dammit.

She plops down in her chair and swings a leg over its arm like she owns the damn place. Her legs are wide open. I will not look at her crotch.

I will not.

For fuck’s sake, the minute she gets a little leverage she takes over the world.

I like it. I like that she has confidence. It’s fucking hot, especially after Henry told me about her crying in the stairwell about potentially losing her job.

She shouldn’t be crying over any job, especially one where she works with that smarmy and insufferable Cameron.

“So, you’re signing?” she asks, like it’s a done deal.

And I guess it is. I mean, how the hell am I going to say no to this woman who has worked her way into my fantasies?

And maybe even my heart?

Just because I’vecleared one hurdle doesn’t mean there aren’t ten more in front of me. Sure, I got Levi Maverick’s signature on a contract for a very sexy romance book by Ryder Night, but I still have challenges to face.

One, and perhaps the biggest, is breaking it to Cameron that his literary flavor of the month also happens to have penned the sexy romance I’ve been trying to get published. I don’t know how he’ll react.

But I can guess.

He could laugh and say all good authors can write a variety of stuff. High-brow fiction one day, sexy romance the next.

Or, he might explode and say no fucking way are we publishing Ryder Night if Levi Maverick wrote it. That despite all my work, and the promise of this book potentially saving Empire Ink Press’s romance division, that it’s just too bad because he can’t have his darling Levi attached to a project like thatever.

The second big challenge, as if the first is not enough, is, as I see it, the actual work that lies ahead. Levi and I must dive into the nitty gritty of the novel to make sure every aspect of it works.

That could be tough. Or sexy.

I’m banking on sexy. That man oozes sensuality, just like his friends Henry and Wyatt. The three of them?

Holyfuckingshit. A trifecta of manly hotness. I need a damn ice pack for between my legs.

The last challenge, as if the first two are not daunting enough, is equally as high stakes. I’ve got to find a way to convince Julius that Levi is not as horrible as he makes him out to be, and that while he might not be a fan of his writing, it’s not that bad, either. At least not enough to warrant the endless ranting Julius does about him every chance he gets. This will be most unpleasant, because it will involve spending time with one of my least favorite people on the planet.

After Cameron, of course.

So, as I tackle the challenges ahead of me, I leave the hardest for last and dive first into what I hope will be at least slightly enjoyable. Even fun. Collaborating with Levi on his kinky stories.

I’m no idiot. I’ll deal with Cameron and Julius later. For now, I want to see how Levi and I work together.

Remaining one-hundred percent professional. Of course.

I was so excited Levi signed my contract yesterday that I embarrassed the hell out of myself by popping a kiss on his cheek on my way out. But who cares? No harm done. I was that much closer to saving my job and besides, who the hell could resist Levi in his natural surroundings anyway, padding around his apartment in bare feet and a ratty old T-shirt, the kind most people use for waxing their cars, and some old jeans hanging so low on his hips I got a peek at his goodie trail.

The man needs a belt, but I keep that to myself, instead enjoying the view.
