I back out of the conference room to keep their nasty eyes off my backside, and hustle back to my desk.

Ugh. My brilliant plan is stalled, at least until Cameron emerges from his meeting with Mr. Holier-Than-Thou. All that leaves me to work on is the blurb for that stupid lemon book.

Since that’s the last thing I want to do right now, I open my naughty discovery like a junkie looking for her next fix.

This book will either save me or sink me.

This time I come across another kinky-ass story about a man who has his sub dress up in a flannel nightie and white granny panties for a role play. Personally, I’ve never been into the ‘daddy’ scene, but this one hits it out of the park with its descriptions of how she’s about to explode at his very touch, and damn, if I don’t stop reading this shit, I really will have to excuse myself for the ladies’ room. Or take the rest of the day off.

In fact, I do head for the ladies’ for a little solo afternoon delight, and as I cross the office, who do I run smack into on their way out, but Levi and his henchman, Henry.

Yay.

“Gentlemen,” I say, dodging them.

Or attempting to.

“Amalia,” one of them calls after me.

Shit. I do not want to talk to these guys.

“Thanks for the coffee earlier,” Levi says, the dimple in his left cheek winking at me like some sort of predatorial seduction.

Damn him. Henry too. Those guys are too nice-looking for their own good.

“You’re welcome,” I say over my shoulder.

“Say, Amalia?” he says.

I stop in my tracks and turn because not to would be fucking rude. And unlike my last job, I’m behaving at this one. I swear, I am.

“Yes, Levi?”

He knits his brow like he’s thinking hard, and I swear if he asks me for another beverage, I will lose my shit?—

“You know, you’re too pretty to look so… sour all the time.”

No.

Just no.

My face is none of that man’s goddamn business.

Stay calm. Stay calm, Amalia.

But my hands settle on my hips, and I take a step toward them as I prepare to give them a piece of my mind.

But the elevator dings. A crowd of people rush out, swallowing up Levi and Henry in its crush of humanity, and then they’re gone.

AMALIA

If that didn’t just killmy hard on, I don’t know what else could.

Abandoning my plan for some afternoon delight, I skulk back to my desk, sour face and all, where I find Cameron hovering. He has his coffee in hand, the one I just brought him, I’m sure just to torment me.

“How was your meeting, Cam?” I ask, Ralph glancing in our direction like the nosy parker he is.
