She shook her head. “No. I have had little interaction with Allorin. He can’t sense me. I could tell how pissed off he was in the parking lot at the store. He doesn’t know about my pendant.”

“That suggests that Breggar is not working with Allorin. I am sure you have acquired at least one artifact that would interest the mage.”

Alana nodded. “I agree. Breggar seems interested in tying me to him. I am not sure why. I think he was waiting until I found my circle, though. He caught up to me once when I was twenty and said our time was coming. I just had to complete my destiny.”

Kell put his hand over hers. “He can’t touch you. No dragon can force a bond and you are spoken for.”

She smiled and noticed the other women in the room were as well. “I will be happy when he is out of my life, but we need to focus on Adara. If she is too weak to reach out to us, then we don’t have a lot of time. I think she is resting. Using some sort of stasis to conserve her power.”

“How do you know?” Mara asked.

“I just sense it,” Alana said.

Legion stood and wrapped his arm around Mara. “I believe Alana is right. Allorin has acquired much more power and has access to the mage scrolls. He will know as soon as Alana approaches the caves what she is after. He will stop at nothing to get the dragon’s claw. It is the answer to his own immortality and his body is failing. It can only sustain him for a year or two at most.”

Alana frowned. “I didn’t realize he was burning through his meat suits that fast. I thought his incarnations lasted longer.”

“When he took Jemma’s mage powers, it boosted him. He is a force, but his human body cannot sustain such power. He will utilize its life force soon. The dragon claw could provide an answer to his ebbing life. If he uses it to save his life, it will come at the cost of the druids’ immortality,” Legion said.

Kell stood. “What?”

“Magic has a price. Cian gave his for the druid mates, but Allorin would take it for his own dark purposes. This is why Magnus hid it away. When the mages learned of this power, they sought to usurp it and they were willing to sacrifice the druids to do it. This was the catalyst for the war. The gift Cian gave to his twin’s mate.”

CHAPTER15

Alana stuffed the last of her bagel in her mouth and downed her tea. “We should book a flight as soon as possible.”

Kell arched his eyebrow. “Surely you are not serious?”

Alana coughed as a chunk of bread caught in her throat. “It’s half a world away. A flight to the other side of the mountain is one thing, but if I spend sixteen hours on your back, I won’t walk straight for a month.”

“There are several ways in which I would like to make you... not walk straight, but it will not be due to flying.”

Alana’s jaw dropped. “Hey, perv machine. Can you tone it down in front of my sister?”

Mara laughed. “The dragons are lacking a filter when it comes to certain... things.”

“Sex. It’s all he thinks about.”

Natalie and Mara both started chuckling.

Kell smiled. “I do think about other things... sometimes.”

Mara and Natalie laughed harder, and Legion smirked.

Alana rolled her eyes. “You are all ridiculous.”

Kell slipped his arms around her waist. “True, but only because we love you. I have the ability to speed up our flight. It will not take more than an hour to get there, but I prefer to do it at night.”

“That’s quite a nifty skill, but why wait? No one can see you. I mean, you can avoid a plane, right?” she asked.

Kell nodded. “Large aircraft are not the issue. We fly below them, and we shroud our presence so we cannot be seen, but moving that fast makes it more difficult to anticipate the natural pattern of local wildlife. “

Alana frowned. “I am not sure I understand.”

“Birds can adjust course quite quickly. Obliterating one in the air is... messy. We will wait till nightfall when the birds are at rest.”

“What about bats?” Years of caving had given her an appreciation for those flying rodents and their skills. She had to avoid them in the caves due to the smell and gases.
