It took her a moment to get the rocking action from a slow glide to a fevered motion. Muscles clenched, relaxed, taking him deeper and deeper as she began to pull down on top of him. His hard-fought control, snapping with each thrust of her body.

In a world where she had felt she had none, she loved this control. The power to bring him unimaginable pleasure and know that she was the only woman who could. When she touched his mind, it wasn’t sex or love; it was both those things and an uncompromising devotion that only a dragon could comprehend.

His mind caressed hers as she increased her pace.I love you, Alana.

She wasn’t sure if it was from her name on his lips, but her orgasm ripped through her body like a tsunami. His fingers gripped her hips as he emptied himself inside her. Dry air fought to fill her lungs as her body hummed with pleasure.

She moved to lie beside him as her eyes closed. “Wow.”

He kissed her temple. “We’re just getting started, little fox.”

“I think I need a minute. Maybe you can start without me.”

CHAPTER20

Alana’s eyes snapped open as the bed beneath her shook. For a moment she thought Kell had gotten up, but his arms wrapped around her as the shaking subsided. She remembered teasing him and closing her eyes as he kissed her forehead, but she must have dozed off. “How long was I out?”

“Only an hour. I planned to let you sleep longer, but it appears we have a visitor,” he said, rising from the bed.

She rolled off in one motion and grabbed her clothes. “Who is it?”

“I don’t know. Someone with magic. That earthquake is not natural. We need to move to the staging area. The outer rooms will destabilize before that one. It is reinforced.” He finished putting on his clothes and shouldered the pack before taking her hand and leading her to the tunnels.

As they were exiting the cozy room, a chunk of slate fell from the ceiling and hit her shoulder. She cried out, grabbing the torn fabric of her jacket. Blood soaked the material before Kell put his hand over the wound and the warming sensation relieved the sting.

“I’m not going to lie. That is a handy talent.” She held her hand over her stomach to quell the uneasiness.

“Whoever caused this quake will pay for the outrage of hurting you.” His eyes blazed with anger, and she was actually afraid for their assailant.

“Do you think it’s Allorin?”

“It is possible. The dark dragons will have told him where this cave is, but none of us have returned since we moved to the US, so I am unsure what alerted him to our presence.”

She glanced at Kell. “Where is the dragon’s claw?”

“It is in the backpack. I will have to fight our assailant. It may be better if you carry the pack until he is subdued.”

She flicked her fingers. “Good idea. Give me the pack.”

He passed her the pack, then led her down a series of tunnels until they emerged in a massive room. Dragons were large, but they could have fit a dozen fully grown males in the room. “This is the staging area.”

Her jaw dropped. “Is it like a war room? Is that why you call it a staging area?”

He chuckled. “Not at all. This room was used for the children to gather. A safe place for them to learn before exiting the caves.”

She glanced around the smooth rock walls. “You obviously used magic to make this but why would children gather here?”

“Our young do not have wings or magic until they are mature enough to handle such a burden, but they must be taught and when their fledgling wings begin to form with their magical abilities, it is safer to learn in a controlled environment.”

She noticed a long wooden table and several benches. The furniture was crude but sturdy. “You flew in here?”

“Not as a dragon. Our fledgling wings form on our human body. We learn to navigate in tight areas so that we can utilize that form when we must.”

She winked at him. “Mara says Legion looks like an angel when he sprouts wings out of his back.”

Kell laughed. “I’m sure Legion was suitably impressed by her observation.”

Alana shook her head. “Not so much, no.”
