I lightly swatted his chest.“You snooped?”

“Hey, you were passed out cold and my eyes wandered. You asked me to stay.”

I just shook my head.“You’re bad.”

“Oh, you have no idea.”

Then he got a mischievous look in his eye that made me want to turn right around and go back to my place.“Maybe we should just go.Damon will forgive you, right?”

Colt patted my backside and moved me along.“Nice try, but we’ve already been spotted.”

That was when I saw my friend Rachel in the studio.I shrieked.“What are you doing here?”

The man who had his arm around her waist looked confused.Rachel answered, “Girl, there’s so much you missed when you went home early last night.”

“All the fun, right?”I laughed.“Same ol’, same ol’, I’m sure.”I turned to her date and said, “Sorry, we’re being rude.I’m Scarlet.”

His voice was deep, but the way his smile reached the corner of his eyes reminded me of— “It’s nice to meet you, Scarlet.I’m Damon. And you weren’t being rude at all.I didn’t know you knew Rachel.”

“Wait, your date is Rachel?”

“You bet. This should be fun,” Damon answered.

“Small world,” I said as Colton hooked his arm around me, too.“Right, Colt?”I didn’t say what I was thinking, that little crack Damon made about meeting his future missus was about Rachel!

“Small world, indeed.”

Rachel inserted, “Scarlet and I are old friends. We met in middle school and the rest is history. We’ve been friends ever since.”

“Well, except for your brief stint in law school.”

“It was three years and we were still friends, just not as close. And I already apologized!”she said full of exasperation, but I was only messing with her, so when she went on I laughed.“We lost touch, but that’s never going to happen again.”

“Relax, it’s water under the bridge,” I said, meaning it.“Anyway, I have to say, it’s nice one of you Ryder brothers likes to dance, because Colt tells me he doesn’t even know how.”

Damon brushed it off.“Please,” he said, “salsa dancing is my love language.”

“What does that even mean?”Colt asked.

“It means salsa dancing and I are simpatico.”

We all laughed as the instructor came out of the backroom and instructed us to find a partner and get into our positions.

Chapter Eight

Colton

Who knew salsa dancing was going to make me break a sweat?Taking that class made me have a whole hell of a lot more respect for athletes who took ballet classes on account of their balance.I’d heard it wasn’t as easy as it looked, but was never made a believer until that salsa class.Dance lessons weren’t for the faint of heart.

“Was it just me or was it hot in that room?”Damon asked, as they all made their way out of the building.

Scarlet replied, “Sure was.I don’t know about you all, but I could use some ice cream.”

“Ice cream at this hour?”Rachel inquired.

I inserted, “Why not?I know just the place.Iggy’s is always open late.”

Scarlet smiled.“Perfect!Nothing screams late-night snack like ice cream.”
