“One pickle coming right up,” I told her.

Before I left, she added, “Oh, and a bowl of oatmeal. With some maple syrup.”As I was going downstairs, she hollered out, “And a banana!Turns out, showering worked up the appetite I thought I lost in the hospital with their questionable fare.”

I laughed, thinking to myself, when she was better, she was so going to get it.But, for now, I’d play it her way.I’d get her what she wanted and later give her what we both knew she really wanted.

“Up and at ‘em,” I said, shaking Scarlet from her dreamland.

She groaned, and I knew she was wishing I’d go away.

“Come on, Scar.Rise and shine,” I probed again, this time opening the curtains so the sun would stream in.“It’s almost noon and you’ve been in this bed for the past two days.”The medication had taken its toll on her, but last night she was able to stop taking one of her pain pills, following the doctor’s advice because she was feeling a bit better.

Truthfully, I knew she’d want to stay in bed and make love, but we hadn’t gone to the gynecologist yet and I wanted to wait just a bit longer if we could, for her.

She groaned again, this time deeper and louder.I was getting the message loud and clear, I just didn’t like it.“One more minute.”

“Bullshit,” I called.“One more minute turns into thirty very easily with you, and that’s on a good day.Time to wake up.We have an appointment this afternoon with your OB and there may be something else.”I threw the covers back and revealed the silky lingerie she wore to bed to push me last night into sleeping with her.It almost worked except for the fact that when I was trailing kisses down her, I looked up only to find her fast asleep.I covered her back up with the covers and turned over.I knew she wanted me to make love to her, but she was emotionally and physically exhausted. However, staying in this bed wasn’t doing her any good. And in the past two days, she’d done nothing but worry more and more about when she’d feel a hundred again.I couldn’t very well tell her that, considering I didn’t have the answer to that one, but what I could do was get her out of this house and doing something.

“All right. You’ve left me no choice.”I bothered her again before bringing my hands to her sides and tickling her.

Scarlet began giggling immediately, her eyes opening wide.“You’re not playing fair, Colt.”

“There ain’t nothing fair about love, baby.”

“Yeah, well,” she started and yawned, “this morning I don’t love you all that much.”

“Bullshit,” I called again.“You love me very much, which is why you’re secretly loving all of this attention.”

“Am I now, or am I just curious about this surprise you mentioned?”

I shrugged.“I don’t know, but get up.”

Scarlet groaned again.“How about you take a shower, shave, and come back in five minutes.”

“Already did all of that forty-five minutes ago.Made breakfast, too.And am ready to go.”

“Go where? Our appointment isn’t until four,” she inquired, sitting upright.

“First we’re going to Wynwood Walls,” I let my voice trail off.“But,” I began and slowly walked away, “if you don’t want to go, then by all means go back to sleep.I guess I’ll just have to take Deacon. You know, he loves art.”

She gasped.“No, no.Give me thirty minutes and I’ll be dressed and ready to go.”

“Really?”I asked.“Because I wouldn’t want to ruin your rest and recovery.”

Scarlet huffed.“Please, it’s no bother, really.I’ll be ready in twenty minutes in fact.Just need some makeup to cover all the bruising and I’ll be good to go.”

“All right, if you say so.”

“I do,” she insisted.

I handed her the crutches and she took them and hopped off to the bathroom where she closed the door to get ready. Then she popped back out and asked, “You know what, can you pass me my ripped jeans and my bright yellow tank top.And you can take a good long look at my ass because once my gyno gives the green light today, it’s on, Colt,” she warned.

I couldn’t help but stifle a laugh.I’d never seen Scarlet move so quickly, especially since the accident. And knew that Wynwood Walls would be the only thing that made her move this fast. She always wanted to go, but her parents insisted it wasn’t a good part of town and when she got older and wanted to go with her brother, he refused, said if their parents wouldn’t take them, he sure as shit wasn’t, either. It wasn’t necessarily a bad part of town but I understand how her parents could’ve thought it was.I’d been there a couple times with my mother and Deacon, they both enjoy graffiti art.Said the artists were some of the greatest of our time. They paved the way for so many, that was what Deacon always said.He was an art minor in college and history major.Had he not enlisted, he was always going to go into a career that utilized his love for art history.Probably work in an art gallery or something.

Scarlet walked out of the bathroom a moment later dressed and wrapped her arms around me, kissing me breathless.“What was that for?”I inquired.

“Knowing me so well.”
