“Nonsense,” she brushed me off.“We’re practically the same size.We used to share clothes in college. What’s the diff?”

I laughed.“Okay, but nothing too sexy.I’m just looking to have some fun with my girls tonight.”

She wasn’t even listening, just picking through more of her clothes in her closet.“I have it.Just the thing,” she said. She rummaged through one of her drawers and pulled out a low-rise denim mini skirt.“This with the black camisole you’re wearing and,” she threw a chef’s kiss at me.“You’ll look hot.”

She tossed it at me and told me to go change in the bathroom.“Brooke, I’m not twenty-one anymore.”

“So, what?I just wore that denim skirt a couple weeks ago to a volleyball tournament they had at the beach. It looked great with my new hot pink swimsuit.Max couldn’t keep his hands off me.”

I rolled my eyes and walked into the bathroom to change anyway.“You do realize that I’m not looking to impress anyone, right?I literally just got out of a long-term relationship.I’m just here for Brandon’s service tomorrow.I mean, I might stay a little longer, but that’s just because I miss Miami. Not because of some guy.”

“Of course.”Then she added, “Hey, what’d you think of Colt?”

“How do you know Colt? And how did you even know he was the one who came?I thought you said you were sending his mechanic brother?”

“Yes, well, Max was.But Damon told Max he got caught up with another car, so he’d send Colt.I didn’t tell you, because I knew you’d made too big of a deal out of it.”

“You mean I wouldn’t want to see some Army man that served with my brother?”I walked out of the bathroom dressed, a newly applied swipe of my lips applied, and my hair fixed, ready to go out.“You would’ve been right.I didn’t like seeing him.He reminded me too much of Brandon.”

“But he was hot, wasn’t he?”Brooke asked.

“He wasn’t bad looking.”

“Oh my, you’re blushing,” she said.

I touched my cheeks and brushed her off.“Stop it.If we’re going, let’s just go, okay?”

“Sure, but you totally liked him.”

She turned around before leaving the bedroom.“Hey, where’d you find that ribbon in your hair?”

“In your cabinet.”I added, “Thought it would be a nice touch to the ponytail, that’s all.”

“I thought you weren’t looking to impress anyone,” she threw my words back at me.

“I’m not.”I put a hand on my hip.“This is all for me as a matter of fact.”

Brooke grinned.“Good, because I wouldn’t want you to be doing all of this for me.”Then she laughed hysterically and I couldn’t help but join in.

“You’re a pain in the ass, you know that?”

“I know,” she replied, smiling the whole time.

Chapter Four

Colton

The heat index outside today had nothing on the heat in this club.Between the strobe lights, the fast and hot dancing, waitresses walking around with trays carrying shooters and drinks, offering them to anyone they came in contact with, and patrons just sitting at random round tables, it was a mad-house in here tonight.I almost forgot how hopping the nightclub scene was.None of that was including the VIP section that I was sure was also lively.“Man, this is great, isn’t it?”Damon asked in a loud volume, trying to compete with the music.

“I’m just not used to it, but it definitely beats sitting at home and watching TV,” I responded.

Damon ordered another beer and began scanning the scene.“You know, there are a lot of hot single ladies here. You should relax a little.Have some fun.”

I harrumphed.“The red-head at the table by the speakers has been eyeing you since we got here,” I informed him.

He looked over and spotted her.Acting chill, he raised his beer to her when their eyes met.“Dude, just go over there,” I goaded him.

“You sure?Marcus already ditched us for the blonde when we got in and technically this was supposed to be a guy’s night out.”
