LEXY

WhenIwake,Iroll over and find the other side of the bed cold. Troy and Cooper are going for a ride this morning while I hang out with Mack and meet Avery. He promised it would be my turn when we both got back this afternoon. He must have left a while ago for his spot to be cold. I turn back over to grab my phone off the nightstand and check the time, noticing a blue sticky note on it.

Can’t wait to show you around later. I love you.

My breath catches at reading the last three words. It’s not that I thought Troy didn’t feel the same way, but seeing it in writing makes it much more real. Reading this note not only confirms what I’m feeling but that Troy knows me–he knew I would need a minute to process. I told him to wait because I was overwhelmed enough when I blurted it out. I suddenly had an undeniable urge to tell him. At the time, I was worried I would panic if he said it back right away. But now, all I feel is the need to hear those words spoken aloud. He’s been so patient and understanding with me, but my patience is suddenly gone.

I pick up my phone, finding his name at the top of my favorites. He answers on the second ring.

“Good morning, baby.” I can hear his smile through the phone.

“I’m surprised you answered. I thought you’d be on the road.”

“We stopped for coffee. Is everything okay?” He sounds more hesitant now. He has to know I saw his note since it was stuck to my phone.

“Mhmm.” I can hear the smile in my own voice.

He chuckles on the other end. “Lexy.”

“Yeah?”

“I love you.”

The breath I was holding rushes out of me. “I love you too, T.” The nickname slips out unexpectantly. I’ve never used a pet name for anyone before so this feels like a good compromise.

“Good. Now go have fun with Mack. I’ll see you in a few hours.”

I walk into Troy’s bedroom to find him sitting on the edge of the bed. He’s looking down at his phone but glances up when he hears the door open, a smile instantly lighting up his face. God, I love him so much it's overwhelming. I didn’t imagine I’d ever feel like this about someone, especially after such a short time.

I make my way to him, bringing a knee to either side of him on the bed. He tosses his phone aside and scoots back enough to give me room to straddle him. His hands fall to my hips, his fingers running along my skin under my red hoodie. “How’s your day been?” he whispers against my lips before he kisses me.

“Good, but about to get better now that I get to drive your bike.” I grin into another kiss, looping my arms around his neck.

“You know I’ve never let anyone but Cooper drive it.” He says it like it's a miracle he’s letting me.

“Only because I won our bet,” I laugh, “but no taking it back.”

There’s a shimmer in his eyes as he smirks.

“What?”

“Nothing.” He shakes his head, running his hands up my side as he kisses my neck.

I pull back. “Tell me,” I demand.

A grin lights up his face. “I lied to you. I’d say I’m sorry, but I’m not.”

I’m confused for a moment, my brows pinching together as I trail my fingers along either side of his neck. “Are you telling meyouactually won our bet?”

He shrugs. “As long as I have you, I’m always winning.”

I playfully push against him until he falls back on the bed. “There’s no way you would have let me win with that bet on the table.”

“I love you, Lexy. I would have let you drive my bike no matter what. I’d let you do anything you want,” he says with adoration in his eyes as he looks up at me.

My heart flips. Like it actually feels like it somersaulted inside my chest. What a weird experience this entire journey has been. “I love you, T.”

“A nickname, the L word, your stack of notes I found hiding in your drawer. Are you getting soft on me, baby?”
