I reach for the receipt paper note taped over a tap on the end. We’ve been out of the beer that was hooked up here all week. I pull it off, noticing the beer tap handle before reading the note. It’s Golden Road Mango Cart–my favorite beer. We haven’t found a place that sells it here. I look at the note in my hand.

Just the start of me making sure you always have everything you need and anything you want.

This is the best surprise. I wonder if Troy is here. He must be getting ready for the event. Why didn’t he show me himself? As I look in the direction of the door to the back room, he walks through it. Holy fuck he looks handsome. He’s wearing his dark gray suit with a black button up shirt underneath. His styled blond hair is perfect, as always. His smile is so big when he sees me, but as he walks closer it transforms into that look he gets when I’m naked. He stops a step away from me and runs his eyes up and down my body as he runs his thumb over his lip.

“Hey, T.” I smile at him, giddy about my gift, seeing him dressed up like this and the way he always wants me. “Thank you for my gift.” He grins as he listens.

“You’re welcome.” He takes a step closer, his hands falling to the nape of my neck. He leans forward to kiss me slowly before pulling back. “You look beautiful. You’re perfect.”

“I kind of wish I didn’t have a date with Maci anymore. I’d rather be wherever you’re wearing this.” I run my hands over the lapels of his jacket.

He smirks in a way that confuses me. His hands drag down my body, from my neck to my waist, and I drape mine over his shoulders, the receipt note still in my hand.

“I love you, Lexy.”

“I love you too.”

“I can’t thank you enough for giving me a chance, for giving Oregon a chance, and I’m so thankful you love both so much.”

“What can I say? You’re hard to say no to.” Making him part of my life has been hard to resist since I met him.

“Is that so?” He questions with a raised eyebrow.

“Mhmm. Well, except that one thing you keep asking me to try. That’s easy to say no to,” I joke.

He laughs, but then gets serious. “Okay, I’ll ask you something else then.”

“What?”

“It’s on the other side of your note.”

Huh? Oh, my receipt. It’s still in my hand. I pull away from where I’m wrapped around his neck to examine the note. I flip it over.

Will you marry me?

I glance up at him, meeting his gray-blue eyes, but then look immediately back to the paper in my hand, my mouth falling open. What. I can’t process it.

When I look back up at him, he’s not there. He’s down on his knee in front of me. He reaches out for the note, pulling it from my fingers and setting it on the bar next to us before he takes my hands in his.

“Baby, since the moment you kissed me on New Year’s Eve, you’ve taken over my world. I want to keep you there for the rest of my life. I love you so fucking much.” One of his hands drops mine as he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a black velvet box. He pulls his other hand away to open the box and hold it in front of me. “Will you marry me?”

My brain can’t keep up with what’s happening. I want to respond and look at the box, and I’m overwhelmed in the best possible way. The box wins, my fingers running along the edge of it as I look inside.

Instantly, tears flood my eyes. It’sthering. “This is my ring,” I whisper.

“I mean, yeah.” He laughs as he stands. “Is that a yes?”

“Troy, you got me my ring.” He grins, understanding what I’m saying now. “How did you find this?” It’s exactly the ring I described, the one I made up at the wedding we crashed. It’s a diamond band, with a teardrop halo, except the gem in the middle is a ruby. It’s red, and beautiful, and perfect.

“I had it made for you, for the girl who was made for me.” Those are the sweetest words I’ve ever heard. This man is everything I’ve ever needed to feel like love can be everything in a good way. He pulls it out of the box, my eyes following his movements. “So, what do you say?”

I go to speak but my voice cracks, and I realize for the first time I’m crying. I tip my head back slightly, running my thumbs under my eyes to wipe the tears. When my cleared eyes meet his, I nod. The wordyesis barely out of my mouth before he’s sliding the ring on my finger, where it fits perfectly. I hardly have time to admire it again before Troy is standing, his hands buried in my hair and his lips on mine. He smells sweet and spicy and kisses me hard and soft, and I feel it all the way to my toes.
