He wept. He cried out.

My cock was in my fist. My mind was in the gutter.

Lust overwhelmed me. Was Valor screaming in pain or pleasure?

Cum sprayed into the deluge of water, weakening my knees. Weakening my resolve to be a decent person.

My head was all wrong.

The event flyer was in my jacket pocket.

Not even Jack could save me.

Chapter Nine: Tarryn

“That was wild.” Valor laughed incredulously as our hired car pulled away from the curb. We’d gone out the back door, but a few fans had been lingering to ask for autographs despite security’s promise to keep the area clear. “I thought the fan convention we went to in Seattle was out of control, but this one blew it out of the water.”

“Well, it was bigger than Seattle, but it seems likeRose Redis gaining momentum. I guess that’s a good sign. It means I’m not going to be out of a job anytime soon.” I smiled as I said it, but as pleased as I was about my career finally taking off, it also felt like the show was a trap. The fact that it was helping the cast and crew pay their bills was great, but living so far away from my husband seriously sucked.

He laced his fingers with mine. “I’m glad I could be here to see it.”

I arched an eyebrow at him. “That had to be as exciting as watching me get my nails done this morning.”

“It’s about time other people discovered how wonderful you are. Soon, we won’t be able to walk down the street without being mobbed.”

I cringed. “It’s bad enough some of the entertainment news places have started taking pictures of me when I’m out and about. The last thing I want is to be mobbed when I’m trying to buy shoes or something.”

“But think of the tabloid stories they could make up about you,” he teased. “I can see it at the grocery store checkout now—’Star ofRose Redseen trying on practical shoes. Does she have bunions?’”

“You look like a bunion,” I grumbled.

“What does a bunion even look like?”

“I’d call my grandmother to find out, but I doubt she’d answer if she saw it was me.”

“You never know. She might have forgiven us by now, even if your parents haven’t.”

I sighed. “It would probably be easier to ask Dr. Google.”

“Will you love me even if Dr. Google confirms I look like a bunion?”

I snorted. My husband didn’t get silly very often, but it was fun when he did. If he hadn’t been with me all day, I might suspect he was up to mischief. “I’d love you even if you were the biggest bunion the world had ever seen.”

“Aww.” He kissed my forehead, which made me melt. “It really is love.”

“Have I ever given you a reason to doubt it?”

The car pulled up at the hotel, and Valor got out and reached my door before the hotel staff.

“Mrs. Davenport,” he said formally, offering his hand to help me out.

“Thank you, Mr Davenport.”

It was a relief to get through the busy lobby in complete anonymity after being so popular at the fan convention. Then again, I’d take popularity over the feeling I’d had at my first convention. There was nothing quite as humbling as everyone walking past your signing table. A few people had stopped to chat—I assumed because they felt sorry for me, since they hadn’t knownmuch about the show. The earth never swallowed me whole when I wanted it to.

“Shower then food?” he suggested.

“I’m not super hungry. The boxed lunches they gave us were filling.” I yawned. “I do need a shower, though. It was so loud in there that people were yelling to be heard. I’m covered in spit.”
