“My sister-in-law got me one for Christmas, but I never remember to bring it with me anywhere, and I don’t know where I left it last. I thought it was in the glove box of my truck, but when I checked on my way to the airport it wasn’t there, so I didn’t have any way of warning you.”

“You seriously don’t have a phone you carry around twenty-four seven?”

“I seriously don’t.”

“Were you raised in some sort of cult?” I asked incredulously. My family was super religious, but even my father had a cell phone.

“In a manner of speaking, yes. Rodrigo and Minnow never told you about Severin and his family?”

“No. It never came up.” I swallowed. “How did you know where to find me?”

“Famous people are easy to find.”

“So, you don’t use your phone, but you use a computer?”

“When I need to.” He jammed his hands in the pockets of his jeans. “I’m sorry I frightened you.”

“Maybe call first, if there’s a next time.”

“Youdon’tlike that he gave me your phone number,” he observed, as though he’d guessed as much.

Ugh. I wasn’t usually so rude, but he’d scared the crap out of me, and I was tired.

“He should have talked to me about it first. We’ve had fun with you, but I’d thought the night of the convention was the end of it.”

“I understand.” He gave me an apologetic smile and moved toward the door.

Valor, why did you put me in this position?

Did he really want me to sleep with Loïc again? Sure, I was still fantasizing about the two nights we’d been together—including what he’d done to Valor—but if we kept doing this, where would it end?

“Why did you go all the way to California to scare Valor?”

He shrugged. “Your husband is very self-possessed. He has the world by the tail, and a collar around your beautiful neck, and that has made him far too cocky. Someone needs to shake him up once in a while.” His gorgeous grin was so mischievous it was hard not to smile back.

“It wasa mean thing to do.”

His eyes sparkled, and he made a dismissive sound. “Shenanigans are good for people, especially when they take themselves too seriously. Did he freak out and call you?”

“Text, but yes.”

“Oh well. I would have thought it merited at least a phone call, but what do I know about married life?” He examined my expression, then edged toward the door. “I’ll see myself out.”

“You don’t need to leave right this minute,” I blurted as soon as his hand was on the doorknob. If he left, we might never see him again. I wasn’t sure why that idea bothered me, but it did. Guilt made me grimace.

He turned back to me. “Have you had dinner?”

I shook my head. I wasn’t sure where any of the lines were in this situation. Having sex with a man and telling Valor about it afterward was one thing. That was kink. Going out to dinner with a man was a date, and it felt a lot more like cheating since we hadn’t discussed it.

“My flight back isn’t for another twelve hours.” He shrugged. “I’m at your disposal until then. You can also choose to send me away.”

His smile was self-deprecating.

I sighed. “Dinner might have been fun, but I’ve been working since four this morning, and I have to be back on set in nine hours. It doesn’t leave me much time to eat and sleep.”

“I heard you mutter something about taking a bath.”

Typical man. I was exhausted and he was going to smirk and ask to join me.
