“Stop trying to be mad at me for the guy you invited into our lives.”
“I’m not!”
“So why do you want to know if I’m getting attached?”
I ran an irritated hand through my hair, messing it up. “Because he wasn’t supposed to be permanent!”
“But you aren’t ready for him to leave.”
“He marked you as his, but you’re mine.”
“Am I, Sir?” she asked sweetly.
“You know you are,” I growled back. “Stop being a brat before I add this to the list of reasons I’m going to punish you the next time I see you.”
Her gaze flared with heat, but she bit her lips together, behaving.
“Of course, I’m yours. I’ve always been yours, Sir.”
I let out a shaky breath. “I’m jealous about him marking you as his property.”
“I know. If it’s any consolation, I didn’t know he was going to do it to me any more than you knew he was going to do it to you.”
“Were you really asleep?”
“I took extra sleeping meds because I was worried about my meeting with my agent today.”
“So, what he did to you was assault.”
“Technically, yes. Good thing I wasn’t really upset about it. The tattoo isn’t big, and it’s somewhere discreet, and I’d have consented to the sex if he’d asked.”
“Do you want to press charges?”
“No.” She smiled sadly. “I know it’s hard to believe, but he’s worried we’re going to leave him. This is his way of claiming us as his.”
“But we’re not!”
She stared at me through the phone, as though trying to find the right words. Her phone buzzed.
“That’s my agent. I have to go,” she said apologetically. “I’ve been approached for a supporting role in a movie while Rose Red is on break.”
“That’s awesome!Congratulations!”
“Thanks! I’m excited to see how different it is, compared to TV.”
“No doubt.”
She wasn’t coming to visit during her break. This came as a bit of a shock. I’d come to expect those visits. That was okay, though…right? I had a lot to do at work, and it was a great opportunity for her.
Even so, I couldn’t help but feel we were drifting apart.
I couldn’t think of anything else to say. “We’ll talk about Leduc later.”
“Sure.”
“I want to see your tattoo again later.”
“Okay, as long as you show me the initials he carved into your chest again.”
