Heat flared in her eyes, but she gave him a playful shove. “You helped yourself just fine…to me.”

“A bit of danger can be an aphrodisiac.” He pulled her into a hot, deep kiss.

It was very strange standing there with people streaming around us gawking at them.

Nothing to see here, people—only my wife kissing our shared stalker.

The scar on my chest itched. I was jealous but couldn’t figure out which of them I was jealous about. Maybe I was simply jealous at being left out.

“So, the two of you do this a lot?” he asked with a sigh of resignation when he broke the kiss.

Tarryn looked dazed, starry-eyed, and submissive. Okay, now I was jealous I wasn’t the only man who could do that to her.

“It’s our favorite thing to do,” I said, switching to walk on his other side, and punching his shoulder. It felt strange, treating him like a buddy in public, considering what we did in private.

“Then it’ll be my favorite, too.” He grumbled under his breath about wishing we had a passion for the opera or fishing.

“Once you get used to it, I think you’ll really like it,” Tarryn said, shaking off her blissful daze. “But if you don’t, that’s okay. When we go to things like this, you can walk around with us, or even hang out at the hotel. You don’t have to come if you don’t want to.”

He looked aghast. “Do you have any idea how many tourists get kidnapped every year? I won’t leave you alone in a place like this, unprotected. It’s not safe. Either or both of you could get murdered.”

“If you think this is bad, we probably shouldn’t tell you about giving ourselves alcohol poisoning at parties in farmer’s fields when we were underage.” I laughed.

She grimaced. “I’m glad you grew out of that.”

“I’m glad you did, too,” I shot back.

It felt weird sharing this shit with someone else. Usually, it was her and I reminiscing alone, but he didn’t know any of our stories, and we’d been together for so long we had tons of them.

I nudged him with my shoulder. “Come on, Leduc. By the end of the day, you won’t want to leave, same as us.”

His brows drew together in concern. It was strange to see the man so uncertain. How could this be the same person who’d chased me through the park, taken me down, fucked my ass, and insinuated that he could murder me? I’d considered him a demon, but he was just a man—not a regular man, but a human one. He was as fucked up as we were, if not more so. It was strangely endearing.

“As usual, I’ll follow where the two of you lead.”

If Tarryn hadn’t had her arm looped through his, he probably would have trailed behind us like a reluctant toddler.

“It’s safe here,”Tarryn said.

“We won’t let anything happen to you.” I was surprised when the words came out of my mouth. Didn’t I hate this man? Well, hate and lust after, and…

Things between us were confusing, but seeing him like this made me feel protective. Suddenly, the way Rodrigo and Minnow acted around Severin made more sense. He was large and dangerous, and also their dominant, and yet they were his emotional sentries.

“There’s no need to be nervous,” I assured him. “This amusement park has a high safety rating.”

“I’m surprised you allow her on these rides. You don’t think they pose a significant risk?”

“Compared to what? Anything could happen to any of us at any point in time. It’s not like we have control over fate.”

“But there is such a thing as tempting fate,” Loïc persisted.

“Are you worried about us or are you worried about yourself?” Tarryn asked.

“About the two of you. It’s hard enough protecting you when you live on opposite sides of the world, but if you purposely engage in dangerous activities, what am I supposed to do?”

“What do we do that so dangerous?” I couldn’t help but ask. Neither of us had an adventurous lifestyle.

“Well, there’s this,” he counted off on his fingers. “Valor, you work late hours alone, and you fly around having meetings with people you don’t know very well. You shouldn’t be going so many places alone without at least checking in with someone.”
