My heart stopped.

“I’ll always stay with you.”

I moved over, giving him plenty of room to slide into bed beside me.

It felt so natural, it should have scared me. It should have forced me to think about all the times we surely had laid together, wrapped in each other’s arms, because there was no way in all hells that it could have felt so natural.

But it did.

Even as I laid my head on his chest, wrapping my arm around his torso. Even as his hand fell on my back and then tensed.

I wasn’t sure why I said the next words, but like everything else happening in this moment, they felt right.

“Not all of us wear our scars on our face for all to see, Wolf. Some of us like to hide, as if that will make the pain go away.”

Wolf’s hand teased under the bottom of my—his—shirt. The warmth of his palm flattening against my skin made me shiver.

“I see your scars in your eyes.” The tips of his fingers circled. “I see them in your fight. I see them in your determination. I see them in your anger.”

When tears burned my eyes, I let them fall.

“Just because your back may hold these physical scars doesn’t mean you can’t rewrite that story, Huntress. You’re a fighter. These explain nothing if not that.”

Chapter

Twenty-Seven

Ithought I was having an incredibly realistic, torturously sexy dream about Wolf. One that involved his warm, comforting body behind me, holding me in his arms, breathing onto my neck.

I thought it was all a dream until I remembered what happened last night.

My eyes shot open. Sometime in the night, we moved around in my bed. Wolf’s arm rested firmly under my head, the other under my shirt and flattened against my bare stomach. His entire body pressed against mine, our legs intertwined together in our carnal, raw position.

Holy hells.

Class would start soon, and after last night, I was going to do everything in my power to avoid talking to Wolf this morning.

I tried to pull myself out of his grasp, but it only resulted in my body pressing deeper into his.

Wolf moaned lazily, tightening his hold on my body.

His thumb grazed the underside of my breast.

My breath hitched.

“One more minute,” Wolf breathed, his voice dripping in morning grogginess.

I let my head fall back onto his arm. “You’re going to make me late.”

“Sleep.” His fingers moved across my skin, and there was no way he didn’t knowexactlywhat he was doing.

I exhaled deeply, noticing every part of Wolf pressing against me.

And very aware of how hard he was.

Before I could stop myself, I rocked my hips backward into his.

He groaned, which only brought even more heat between my legs.
