Before I knew what was going on, I was up and in front of Katarina catching a knife before it hit her with the speed I had expected from a vampire. Aeon and Lucien also stood up, walking in front of her to protect her.

“I honestly expected more from the descendants of Thane, but I guess the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. He was a cocky fucker who thought he could get away with this, but it seems history has a way of repeating itself.” She moved in between Aeon and me as I took in what she just said. I looked up at Caston, ready to rip his head off and everyone he was related to. That’s why he’s always felt familiar.

“You don’t fuck with a Belladonna, and you definitely don’t mess with her mates.”

KATARINA

Ifelt so very different as I was fighting with Caston’s coven. My water and air magic now came easily to my fingertips, and all it took for me to use it was a thought. I knew it was not usually this easy, but right now I was getting through these people so easily. As much as I want to dive into what the hell was happening, I just wanted my mates. I needed them to be safe.

People who were at our wedding were attacking me, screaming out obscenities like I had betrayed them, like I was the crazy one. I felt no remorse when I hurt any of them. Their constant sneers or comments on my not producing an heir for Caston, made this so much easier. God, I hated my in-laws.

“You don’t fuck with a Belladonna, and you definitely don’t mess with her mates,” I sneered, but coming face-to-face with Caston made me feel like that young naive girl he first married. I couldn’t stop the shiver that coursed through my body when I saw that sadistic glint in his eye.

“You think you’re going to defeat me?” he sneered. “You’re just a useless Belladonna. I knew as soon as my family showed interest, I would get stuck with you.”

“Oh, come on Caston, you can act like it didn’t happen, but you and I know the truth,” I smirked, touching Aeon, quickly glancing at him to make sure he was ok. “When we were younger you would follow me around like a lost puppy, telling people I was going to be your wife.”

He laughed like what I said wasn’t true, but I remembered a time when I foolishly thought Caston was charming and sweet. That boy had long been hardened with whatever they had brainwashed him with.

It was risky to taunt him, but I was done. He needed to be taken care of, now.

He wasted no time in throwing a knife at me. I caught it in mid-air, throwing it back quickly when the fight erupted again. My men quickly changed into their wolves and darted in and out of the mob and our army of the dead.

I ran behind them, occasionally having to fight someone, until I ran into Clodius' brother. “Was it you? Or did you sick your wolves to kill him?”

“His screams were a sweet symphony,” I smirked, picking up a sword off the ground, swiping it through the air to get used to the weight.

He laughed. “Have the wolves hardened you up? Maybe I’ll keep you alive while I gut you.”

I didn’t give him a chance to get ready, I struck first with fire on the blade. He blocked my blade pushing me back, quickly swinging at me. His swing pushed me down on one knee as I used my other hand to hold my blade up.

“I can’t wait till I get to break into the Belladonna compound and take your sister like I've always wanted,” he smirked.

“It was pathetic your family couldn’t offer more or was it because they always loved Clodius more?”

It was my turn to smirk as he grew serious. It had always been a competition between them, especially since Louis’ magic was weak, but what he lacked in magic, he made up for in brawn.

“Neither of you were worthy of a Belladonna, and you never will be,” I snapped, using my air to push him away.

I sliced his arm as I advanced on him, swinging at him while he was still trying to recover. He blocked it, swinging at me in anger as I crouched down slicing the inside of his thigh. He bellowed at the pain, swinging at me again, when I stood up, slicing his outer leg.

I was too close when he punched me. I tried dodging the hit, but he was still able to hit the side of my chin, and now I was close enough. Lighting my hands on fire, I grabbed ahold of his arm, adding air to it so he caught on fire quickly.

Louis yelped at the pain falling down to his knees, smirking at me. It was too late when my body seized up in agony. Electricity coursed through me, not allowing me to think about anything other than the pain. Falling to my knees, I doubled over and threw up.

“Useless whore.” Caston’s voice barely made it through the haze of pain. “All you had to do was give me a fucking heir, and we could have gone about this differently.”

“Differently? Are you fucking insane,” I asked, through clenched teeth.

The pain stopped all of a sudden, letting me take a deep breath. Tears welled in my eyes hoping nothing had happened to the baby, but that worry was quickly replaced by anger. Everything was fine, everything had to be fine, I wouldn’t accept anything less.

“I would have loved you…”

“Fuck you, and your fucking love,” I snarled, getting up, taking a knife out of my holster. “You will never have me or take my family away.”

I threw the knife at him, then another and then another before I raised vines in front of the ground to grab him, but he used electricity to burn them.
