“I don’t know, it didn’t feel like another episode, but I was going to speak to Mr. Potter anyway.” We stepped onto the landing, heading for the kitchen. “She said it’s nothing elderberry, marshmallow root and rest wouldn’t take care of.”

“Mr. Potter,” Lucien called out.

“Yes?” He floated out of the kitchen.

“Katarina is not feeling well,” I said, before Lucien could.

“She said she feels like she has a stuffy head, and her ears feel like they are under water,” Lucien explained. “Do you think it could be Caston?”

“Doesn’t sound like it. Humans get colds all the time, usually during the winter.” Mr. Potter seemed unphased by her symptoms.

“I’ll make her some tea, I’m sure she just needs some rest.” He went back to the kitchen, and we followed.

“She said elderberry and marshmallow root tea is what she takes,” Lucien looked around the kitchen. “Do we have soup? Or can you help me make soup?”

My heart warmed. Lucien was an amazing mate, making me ache for him. Even though our bond was stronger as a pack and through Katarina, I still felt a strong, individual need for him. When we shared Katarina, everything was perfect, but I had always wondered what it would feel like for Lucien to be mine.

“Is Katarina ok?”

Zev walked into the kitchen still naked with snow on his hair.

Lu proceeded to tell him what was wrong with her while Zev’s scowl grew deeper and deeper. He didn’t wait for Lucien to finish before we walked back out of the kitchen.

“Zev,” I called out to him.

“What?” He looked annoyed.

“What are you doing?” I asked catching up to him.

“Maybe one of us should just go check on her,” Zev called over his shoulder.

“Lucien just checked on her, let her re?—”

“Zev.”

It sounded like Katarina, but it was faint. I looked at them wondering if they heard it too. We all rushed up to the main bedroom, seeing the room a mess. My heart pounded, I knew she wasn’t in the room. I followed our bond and it took me out the side of our home. A man was on fire as another grabbed Katarina and picked her up. Zev was the first to shift with Lucien and I right behind him.

They were trying to take her away from us. I snarled, pushing myself to go faster. Lucien reached the man who was on fire first, ripping his arm off. He howled in pain before I went for his throat, ripping it out.

Looking up, I saw the other man carrying Katarina step through the barrier like it wasn’t even there. Zev rushed to where they had walked through, but the spell kept him from leaving. We all shifted.

“Katarina!!” I yelled, hitting the invisible wall.

She managed to get away from the man, trying to get to us. Her steps were clumsy, like she couldn’t get her footing, but she kept coming to us through sheer force of will. Zev and Lucien urged her forward as we locked eyes.

Come, mate. Come back to us.

The asshole got up right behind her. He had a deranged look on his face walking up to her.

“Run!” I yelled, knowing she wasn’t going to escape him.

She had obviously been drugged or been bewitched. When he finally reached her, my heart stopped beating and everything slowed down. He grabbed her, lifting her up before smirking right at us. She looked back at us, with a look of defeat, her bottom lip trembled. The asshole was saying something and so was Zev. All I could do was pay attention to Katarina, memorizing her, for fear I might never see her again.

There were so many things I wanted to say, but all I could do was stare at her. Zev tried to use his magic and made the ground move. This sparked a sliver of hope, but when nothing else happened, defeat settled in. Ribbons of electricity ran over her body as her face scrunched up in pain before she passed out. I hit the barrier with everything I had, trying desperately to get to my mate.

“Katarina!” I bellowed, feeling my knuckles split from my punches.

Lucien was still yelling, but Zev and I watched this asshole walk away with Katarina. That’s when I remembered her sister was coming today. I didn’t bother saying anything to the guys, shifting quickly running to the gates in the front.
