“Now, if you are done being brutes, we need Mr. Potter,” he snapped at us. “Mr. Potter!”

We waited for him to appear, growing worried each minute he didn’t materialize. Lucien called out for him again, Zev paced, and I watched both of them, constantly checking behind me to see if they were bringing Katarina back. My heart pounded quicker and quicker, wondering if we had lost both of them.

Mr. Potter was like a father to us. He took care of us, and volunteered himself to be stuck here to watch over us. If they did something to him… I couldn’t take losing both of them.

“Where is Katarina?” Mr. Potter popped into existence.

“Where have you been?” Zev snarled.

“There were two men in the library looking for something. I heard you go after Katarina and figured it would be best if we could question someone.” He glared at Zev.

“They took her,” Lucien said quickly. “They went that way.”

“Katarina’s sister and three others are looking for her,” I said, worried I had messed up by going to Serena instead of Mr. Potter.

“Let’s hope she hasn’t gone too far, and her sister will get her if she has gone too far. Someone should check on those two intruders soon,” he said before he disappeared.

When he vanished, it felt like he took all my hope with him.

“How the hell did things go from great to shit?” Lucien paced, as his emotions turned volatile.

“We got too comfortable, we should have listened to our wolves more,” Zev said, walking up to the barrier.

“I don’t think they knew anything more than what they told us. We never found anything,” Lucien said, walking to stand right next to him.

“We could have been more careful with her. Watched her more, locked her in a fucking tower so no one could get to her,” Zev growled, punching the barrier. “We could have…”

He put his hand on the wall containing us with his head hanging down.

“Now’s not the time to worry about the what-ifs,” I said, putting my hand on his shoulder.

Lucien did the same, so we flanked our Alpha who was as much hers as we were. They might not be mated, but if we lost her, I’m afraid of what that would do to all of us. The only thing that was keeping me sane was feeling her through the bond. She was still alive.

KATARINA

Aloud sound woke me. My eyes snapped open and shut just as quickly. I was still groggy, my brain felt like mush, my body felt like every nerve ending was burning and my heart… my heart felt like it had been ripped out.

“Stupid fuck had the fucking keys.”

The voice made me still, wondering if it was better if I just pretended I was still knocked out. Clodius sounded livid, I did not want to deal with him while he was pissed off. He might just kill me by accident in his rage.

I slightly opened my eyes, seeing if he was close by. My eyes were heavy, but I kept them open, looking around. I was in the back seat of the car with tinted windows. The car smelled dusty and it definitely wasn’t one of the luxury vehicles my family usually traveled in.

The front door opened, making me close my eyes quickly.

“Where the fuck did I put my phone? Goddamn Rupert had to go and fuck everything up,” he snarled.

The car jostled when he sat in it, as he continued to grumble about something. I had the need to see what was going on, but fear kept me still. The sound of a phone opening cut through the silence, then clicking sounds like he was texting someone.

“Answer your fucking phone,” he snarled, then the sound of something crashing made me flinch.

“Fucking useless people. I always have to do it by myself.” He left the car, slamming the door shut, making me flinch again. I shivered from the cold seeping into the car, realizing I was in my pajamas. The feel of cold metal was up against my breast, and I looked down at the necklace he had put around my neck.

It wasn’t anything I was familiar with, but it looked and felt like it was old magic. It felt like the power of the gods. As much as I wanted to hold it, feel it and study it, I didn’t have time to waste on it. I needed to break away from Clodius to get back to my men. Just seeing them struggle against the barrier made my heart clench. Seeing Zev panic made my heart soar that I wasn’t the only one affected by this, but guilt sat heavily on my chest. This cemented the idea that mating with him would definitely be a bad one.

Something hit the side of the car making it shake.
