“Aeon.” Lucien’s impatient voice brought me out of my safe space.

“Lucien,” Katarina chastised.

“I better go, I don’t want to hurt you,” I said, pushing her up.

Sitting up felt excruciating, I definitely needed to shift to get this pain under control.

“You’re an idiot,” Katarina’s voice was stern. “You should never put your life in jeopardy for me, you hear me?”

“You got your answers though,” I said, ignoring her comment. I would always put her life before my own.

“Yeah, but that was not worth it, seeing you drop like a sack of potatoes, thinking you hurt yourself beyond repair.” Her voice was shaky, making me look up at her to see tears in her eyes. “It was so fucking scary, Aeon.”

“Kitten, I would do anything for you, this is no exception. You needed answers and it seems we got more than we bargained for.” I stood up, feeling shaky when she came up next to me to hold me up.

“Your life is not a bargaining chip and what the hell was that surge of power?” She was pacing. “It felt like old magic, like something from that necklace Clodius put around me.”

I pursed my lips together because I didn’t know if I wanted to say my theory out loud. I worried that it would make her feel even more unsafe or worse, paranoid. When I looked up, Lucien was looking at me like he was trying to figure out what was goingon. I shook my head, hoping he would take the hint that I didn’t want to tell Katarina.

“Come on, we can deal with this tomorrow night, I don’t feel comfortable here in the room with both of us on the verge of being called by the curse,” Lucien said, taking my hint. I could almost throw myself at him to thank him.

He came to my side to help me walk. My body was weak, needing to recharge and probably eat. Katarina stood before us in front of the door looking exhausted. We stopped right in front of her when she leaned up to kiss me. I let her take the lead, her lips felt divine and the urge to say fuck it and take my chances here almost took over.

“I love you, Aeon, today, tomorrow and into the afterlife.” She kissed me again. “Thank you so much.”

I nodded, feeling mildly better. She then kissed Lucien, telling him the same thing, making me want to throw them both on the bed while I worshiped their bodies.

“Come on, lover boy.” Lucien grabbed me, helping me out of the room.

I glanced back just in time to see her as she closed the door. I threw her a kiss, seeing a smile before the door clicked shut. We walked down the stairs, when I realized there was a lot more light than usual.

“What time is it?”

I was out of breath when we reached the bottom of the stairs.

“It's almost mid-morning,” Lucien said, taking more of my weight as I grew more tired.

“Wow,” I said, as he opened the door, letting the sun blind me.

I was starved for the warmth of the sun and every day she had given me with the sun healed me even more.

“The days are getting warmer.” Lucien's voice still held some awe in it even though we had been experiencing the sun for a couple of months now.

“Soon, we will be able to run during the day as a pack.” I stood in front of the house soaking up the sun.

“You think she will be able to shift?” Lucien stood next to me, his shoulder brushing my own.

“Goddess, if she did, I think that would be winning the jackpot, like Katarina says,” I said, leaning my head back feeling the curse finally call to me.

It used to be this sharp jerk or tug to shift, now it was a slow pull that eased its way into my body, making me feel like this curse was just about done with us and I hoped to Goddess it was.

Lucien chuckled, “I can’t wait.”

“Let's get through the next few weeks and we can start thinking about ways to make her shift, right now we just have to make sure we all survive,” I said, giving myself to the curse. We all needed to survive because I would die if I had to live without my sun, my moon and my stars. I think we would all go crazy without her, even Zev.
